Bit of both, really. I much prefer to legitimately buy things, so I only download things that I already own but lost the copy of, or things that old enough to be hell to look for.

Download series, buy films/games.
Anyway theifing from the interweb means your stealing the actually thing rather than getting a slightly less legal copy.

I buy plenty of DVD box sets, and movies.
I also download alot of series. I cant be arsed to wait until they finally start airing it over here, so I download.
Sometimes they never box a series, either.

(Reboot, Freakazoid, Beast Wars)
too true.
And what is the deal with dividing a season in Parts 1 and 2? I just plain refuse to buy it then!

I download whatever I can.

For music I always download, and usually delete pretty quickly once I realise it is crap.
One artist I love is MC Lars, went to his gig the other day and bought a hoodie instead of buying the cd :) (MC Lars advised me to do this cos he gets more from the kit!)

For movies I download and watch and then delete, I rarely watch movies twice, those I do I buy on DVD.

As for games I buy them for my 360, download for the wii and DS and usually buy for PC as I like playing online and can't be bothered to keep up with cracks and patches! Plus all the Wii games seem to suck :(

I also use Linux cos I would never buy an OS either. I'm just cheap and poor.

I'd like to hear your thoughts whilst I stoke my DVD box sets.
Can you stroke downloads? No.
...and this is the main reason why.
I was trying to put humour into a serious matter xD
If that didn't get across - here's a joke to compensate:
What athlete is always warm?
A long jumper.

LONG JUMPER. Genius.

I apologise for the horrible joke.
*Loads shotgun* can i talk to you outside for a momentAgent Face?

3) is the price of the product worth it ?
4) how dificult will it be to get the product ?
I'm with 1, 2 and 4 too..
Most of the stuff I listen too are straight out of the 60's and 70's, and vinyl these days is pretty hard to come by... I've got plenty of downloaded albums that match what I already own on vinyl (is that classed as stealing?) However, a lot of stuff that I want to get is still pretty rare.. (If anyone out there's got that three-sided monty python record?...)

Only download Music to see if I like it, if I do, I buy the album.

As for games, I buy most of them second hand for like 5 pounds each, which isn't alot of money.

I pirate everything but games.....I buy games as a tribute to the designers but so many people make music and today's music is so bad I am opposed to paying for it. ESPECIALLY to itunes.

Movies too....but I appreciate them in my own special way. Because if we pay apple more we will regret it, Maybe not today, Maybe not tomorrow but soon and for the rest of our lives.

Nobody is stealing anything, they're COPYING stuff. Besides, the people that purely download weren't going to buy it in the first place, so it actually doesn't hurt sales.
Thats a bit balck and white
If you think about buying a used game, dvd or other media, it kind of ends up being the same thing as downloading (to it's respective industry) doesn't it? They aren't seeing a penny.

Let's ignore the shops we would buy those used games from, they aren't in this equation.

I buy all my media, or I acquire it in an alternate way permitted by the author.

I think the process has to be fair to both the consumer and the producer. Piracy and locked down media are both bad directions.

I pirate games usually. Along with music, movies, and TV shows.

I'll never pirate from Valve, though. Or any indie developer, unless they're dicks.

Actually, these are some good rules.

1) can i get ahold of the thing i download, by any other method ?
Example: Scanlations of manga or doujin not released outside Japan. Also, seriously old DOS-era games, or even some semi-recent games that are only available used.

2) will i consider bying it if i enjoy the product ?
Mostly music, for me. Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Nightwish, Rhapsody of Fire...

3) is the price of the product worth it ?
Can't say I let price be a factor in too many cases. Except in one particular case, where the only way I could legitimately buy a copy of Tsukihime would be to hand over $350 to some prick on a Japanese auction site. Thank Bob for torrents.

4) how dificult will it be to get the product ?
A big factor. Probably the biggest one for me, in fact.

I don't pirate games as of 1 april this year courtesy of whining companies that think i would actually buy their stuff even when they don't sell them to me. There's a lot of old titles that i wanted to give a try *sigh

I can't continue to brush up on classical movies either because i'm too poor for that as well. Now i'm really convinced that they shouldn't have any of my money.

Ah, see I differ in style, I wear the hat, i mean that's a required feature in the highwayman code, but how I make my entrance is on horse back, flintlock pistol at the ready, and I only plunder carridges containing rich, buxom ladies.
It tends to pay off better when the charm is imployed.
