People say they've been bullied at the drop of a hat these days. Someone makes fun of your new haircut and "Oh no! Bullies!".

Some chav tried to happy slap me once, I ran after him tackled him to the floor and kept smacking his face until he apologised, ahh good times and that's why I never get insulted or attacked.

Always had to deal with insults n' such and it got quite harsh in some elementary years but I am mostly fine in high school now thanks to the wonders of wit.

In year 10 of school, I was bullied by years 7, 8, 9 and 11. In year 11 of school, I was bullied by year 7, 8, 9 and 10.

Oh well. Everything's died down now.

I wasn't high-strung or anything in school, but I had no tolerance for abuse. I wouldn't cop anything without kicking back. I'm sure it was partly the result of being the youngest child in my family.

I was never mean to loners or freaks - always a friend to the D&D-playing misfit, me - but there were a few kids who were just so god damned annoying that I'd persecute them very lightly (e.g. disparaging remarks). It was retaliation, really: if they weren't being annoying I could be their best friend.

I guess I was bullied a bit growing up.

The boys that bullied me were in for a treat though, as I at age 7-8 could take 3-4 guys from my grade at once. I've was to the principals office pretty much two/three days a week. I claimed to be bullied, which I was severely at the time, but since I was the "troublemaker" I got the blame.

After I changed school, I got in a fight the first day, with a guy that would turn out to become a great mate; I changed my personality a bit, molded it - if you will - and become one of the cool kids.

Not because I changed to fit in, but because I got more mature, and thus fit in automatically.

To this day, I can honestly say that I've been a bit of a bully the last few years, and I haven't been bullied in return. Not at all a bad a bully as many others from my "cliche", but a bully nonetheless. I always said I was sorry though, when I could see I'd done some damage, and made sure to shake hands.

I've been out of school for damned near a decade... scary. I was bullied through most of junior high, but by high school I'd push back when I got pushed. Sure 9 times out of 10 I'd get my ass beat in a fight and I can count on one hand the fights I actually won, but by 11th grade, nobody thought I was worth it anymore.

I'm pretty indifferent to all that shit now, except I worry about my kids getting bullied when they get older.

I would take them to self defence classes and just tell them to avoid a conflict if they can. Just make sure they finish it and don't gloat

I was bullied quite a bit when I was younger. I started weight lifting around grade 9 and kept at it through grade 12. That's about the time the bullying stopped. Funny that. That's about when the tides were turned and I sort of "re-paid" their "kindness".

I was always bullied at school (primary and comprehensive). It was usually done by the same group of girls and they made my life a living hell (physical and mental abuse everyday). No one really gave a crap, expecially the teachers, even though the school had a zero tolerance to bullying.

But it has made me the person I am today. I am more open minded about people I meet and I don't jugdge people on their apperances. Saying that I was bullied for being fat and keeping my head down in my studies, and was constantly told I would never do anything good with my life and no one would want me...now 10 years later I am in a fantastic relationship with a guy for 8 years and I have a brilliant job...All the girls who bullied me are now fatter than me, with no job, living on benefits with several children each by different fathers.

So now I can have the last laugh HA!

Karma's a fickle *****. Glad to hear that your life has improved for the better as well! I'll probably never know what became of my former tormenters, but I honestly don't care. For better or worse, it was just a time of my life that I got through and feel better for having made it out without any real permenant damage... aside from being a cynical asshole. ;)

@Adam - My wife wants to put our 3 year old in karate. I'm a bit anxious about the idea since she's already a bit of a fighter in pre-school, so I want to make sure it's more focused on discipline than kicking people where it hurts.

It could happen, yes but with the proper instruction and some reinforcement from you and your wife she could learn to use it responsibly. Who knows if she shows enough interest in it it could open a whole new revenue of understanding both emotionally and spiritually. Unless of course you don't agree with that

I think there is usually two outcomes from being bullied...1. You take it and use it to your advantage and better yourself...or 2. waltz into the food hall and go postal on everyone with enough ammunition to blow up a small island.

I was a fat kid that got bullied a lot! It sucked so I often times lashed out at people that did not really need it. I and am sorry.
