Western: Mass Effect (havn't played 2nd one yet)

Japanese: Xenogears (playing FF13 now then ME2)

I love both but I grew up with JRPGS and Xenogears is an incredible game.

honestly this is a tough choice...i enjoy alot of final fantasy and chrono trigger and tales of games... while at the same time i love bioware and all they have accomplished (not much of a bethesda fan, ) but i will have to go with wrpg's, kotor alone causes such an awesome sauce uproar in me

WRPGs, probably just because I grew up with them.

Hopefully this won't turn into a flamewar, its an interesting look at the Escapist community.

Put an option for "Like them both" because I have favorite RPGs on both sides of the spectrum and don't prefer one over the other.

I prefer western RPGS. I haven't played a single JRPG since Final Fantasy X which made me want to gouge my eyes out with forks from the stupidity.

Current favorite: KoTOR

I like JRPG's more solely because of Pokemon. On the other hand, though, Oblivion is awesome, and so is Mass Effect..

I much prefer western RPGs because JRPG art styles - like character models and such - make my head hurt and it's kind of hard to like them.

Unless they're Jansen from Lost Odyssey. He's one of my favorite characters.

Western: Fallout 3... That's about all I've played.

JRPG: Several Final Fantasies and Pokemon. Considering how much of a pokemaniac I am, I'm goin with JRPGs.

Western is definately my favourite - my favourite of them probably Mass Effect 2.
JRPGs I like the lighthearted ones, like Paper Mario and (once, not now) Pokemon. I despise standard JRPGs. Haven't played Demon's Souls yet, judging from its reception it could sway me towards not actively hating them.

Western: Fallout 3

Eastern: Toss up between Fire Emblem Sacred Stones and Tales of Symponia

Favorite is probably eastern because there are just more of them, the only wrpg developers i follow are bethesdia and bioware and bethesdias rpgs are few and far between

Here's a question as for WRPG, was Mass Effect 2 even an RPG anymore?
No. It wasn't.

WRPG- KotOR 1, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, Baulders Gate 2, NWN 1&2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Mass Effect 1, Sacred

JRPG- Demon's Souls.

I don't really like anime, so that rules out about 80% of all JRPGs... I heard the final fantasy games were good, but I have a lot of trouble taking them seriously.

Oh, and I like pokemon.

JRPG = Tales of Vesperia - i love the cell shading, the humor, the gameplay, the characters, etc.

WRPG = Fallout 3. For the reasons which everyone else has stated.

Western RPGs. I like my men to look like men, and my women to look like women. I just can't get over the style aesthetic in JRPGs...
Yeah that's my reason for liking Western RPGs there's nothing wrong with a man being a bit feminine, but JRPGs overdue that. Plus in a JRPG when I see a cutscene where the character is doing all these badass moves I'm like "Gee I wish the turn based combat would let me do that".

Maybe not by traditional definition (i.e. massive amounts of loot and grind) but it was definitely still an RPG.

Western: Fallout 3, Mass Effect 1 & 2, KOTOR
JRPG: Final Fantasy 7,9,10

I like both styles equally, it just depends on what I'm in the mood for.

WRPG: Fallout 3
JRPG: FF series, Pokemon series, Paper Mario series, Fire Emblem Series, Tales series, Megaman Battle Network series, SMT series, Dragon Quest series, Star Ocean (except 4) series.

I know the stereotype is "HEY TEENAGER WITH CRAZY HAIR, SAVE THE WORLD WITH A HUGE SWORD" is silly. But "HEY MUSCLEMAN, HERE'S A BIG GUN, SAVE THE WORLD" is how I'd summarize WRPGs. IMHO
