Oblivion, Morrowind, Fallout 3, KOTOR, Mass Effect 1 and 2, and Dragon Age. Ya it's only two game developers but these are all fantastic games and definitely not beta versions...Olrod said:It would appear that every "Western" RPG I've bought over the last few years has always needed patching (several times) before it's finished and ready to play.
Maybe they have higher standards in Japan, but it seems to me that in the Western World, RPG makers only ever seem to release Beta versions of their games.

Baldur's Gate, Fallout 1 & 2, Planescape Torment, (other Black Isle RPG)
"Neither" option?Wakikifudge said:Which do you prefer. What is your favorite game in each. My favorite Western is a tie between Oblivion and Fallout 3. Shining Force is my favorite JRPG.
Then a WRPG would be called a WG, both game use up parts of the definition of RPG but not all. They are both as much of a RPG as the other.Angerwing said:Western: Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. Period.
JRPGs: I only like Pokemon.
Are most JRPGs even RPGs? I'm not saying this in a bad way, it's just a matter of naming, but many JRPGs have little skill choice, minimal equipment choice and pre-determined stat growth. You also often play a pre-defined character with his/her own personality.
What makes it a JRPG and not a JG?
Sorry for the double post, but quoted for truth.LeonLethality said:Then a WRPG would be called a WG, both game use up parts of the definition of RPG but not all. They are both as much of a RPG as the other.Angerwing said:Western: Morrowind is my favourite game of all time. Period.

In my experience WRPG's have more RPG elements to them. I'm not saying all JRPG's should be stripped of the title, but many fall under that name when they really don't deserve to.LeonLethality said:Then a WRPG would be called a WG, both game use up parts of the definition of RPG but not all.
