I was playing Doom when I was 4-5. Your poll doesn't go that low. I didn't regularly play them, but I also wasn't the gamer I am now.

GTA 2 when I was around 9-10ish. I still have the game. Crazy ass birds eye view game, my favorite thing to do was tank rampages and taking out all the Elvis impersonators that walk together.

Probably about 6 ish with the original GTa then progressing onto 2 heck I remember being at the shop when my dad bought GTA 3 but the best game of my childhood was by far mech warrior 4 that thing is just pure awesome played it far too much xD

Yeah but OT 6-7 ish and it hasn't negatively affected me in anyway heck my parents were more fussy about me getting a console for the tv than they were of me playing GTA on the pc

The first M game I played was Halo 1, and I would've been about 8 or 9.
I still remember starting up Halo for the first time... *begin nostalgic memory montage*

I first played Halo (my first M-Rated game), when I was 14ish. It wasn't until I turned 17 that my parents let me play whatever M-rated game I wanted. So, either age works, I guess.

From when I was 5/6? I really think you should add the -always- option.

My first M rated game was Jade Empire, when I was 14. After that I played things like Halo, Neverwinter Nights, ect. "Lite Ms" if you will. Didn't play things like Half-Life or Mass Effect until I was 15, and couldn't play worse things like Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, ect until I was 16+.

The rating system didn't exist when I was a kid, but somewhere around 4 years old loading up Leisure Suit Larry. Parents figured if i could get past the opening questions i could get myself killed walking in front of a taxi or beaten up by a thug in the alley. Its not like i could get anywhere in the game ... at that age the concept of buying lubber (heh rubber) from the convenience store waaaaay over head.

The 7-12 mark I imagine. I don't think I really played any major video games before I was like 6 or 7. I remember playing SiN and Blood a lot as a kid, and those were two very violent, brutal, 'mature' games of their time - probably a testimony to the fact that I am so fucking desensitized today xD

It's not really applicable to me, since the ratings weren't really around when I was young and also the UK BBFC ratings are different to the US ESRB ratings.

For example, the first "M rated" game I played was Mortal Kombat on my Amiga and Game Gear, but that was only rated 15 in the UK and I was 13 going on 14 at the time. The first true "M rated" game (i.e. BBFC 18) I played was Carmageddon, but again I was 17 when it was released, so it's not like I was well below the age limit.
