Democrat myself. I try to be more moderate, but damn, I'm just too damned naturally liberal.

I guess this isn't very prominent in America, but I kinda miss Social Liberalism and Socialism on there.

None. Independent is a party now, so I pick the other option or whatever they happen to put on the forms that day.

I'm from the UK so I don't follow US politics as closely, but from what I am aware of (a fair bit, surprisingly) I'm a Democrat supporter. I support the Conservatives here in the UK though.

I agree. And I'm sick of people equating Socialism with Communism, they don't have to be the same thing. I mean, look at France: a democratic socialism.

My understanding is that the US political range is so skewed, that what's liberal in the US is conservative in the UK.

Indeed. Actually, most of Europe are social democracies to some extent, although, from what I'm able to gather, there's better social security in Scandinavia.

In US terms, I'd be a Democrat supporter. On social issues I'm totally liberal and on economic issues I'm centrist (which seems moderately socialist by comparison to the form of capitalism that dominates in most countries).

And I'm moderately sick of people equating communism with the fascist system of the Soviet Union or Red China, which were not very communist at all in practice. Real communism is democratic.

Sorry, that came across as a little more rude than I intended. I didn't mean it that way. Here, have a smiley: :)

True. I just figured that I'd work on distancing Socialism from what we perceived as communism before dispelling the myths about communism itself.

Conservative, but I'm not sure if I'm really still Republican or not. I've become very unhappy with the U.S. Republican party recently. From their horrible candidate choices in '08 to some of the boneheaded stuff they've let people get away (Bush and Guantanamo, Patriot Act, etc) with, it's just... Ugh.

But I'm no Democrat, either. There's just some stuff they push for that I'm very much against (lots of lame stuff done in the name of Conservation, etc.)

I guess I'm an Independent now? If I had any idea what a Libertarian was, maybe I'd go with that.

how could you be a libertarian and a socialist? they are at odds with each other. I libertarian believe in as little government (or no government) as possible. While a socialist believes in government regulation. how could you be both? unless are you talking about European definishions (sorry i dont know if they got different meaning across the pound)

As defined by Marx, initially a revolution is needed, followed by a dictatorship of the proletariat, and ultimately the social libertarian system, where democracy is obsolete, as there is no government.

Note: This does not mean I oppose communism or believe it to be "evil".. not more so than liberalism anyway. But according to Marx, a temporary dictatorship is a requisite.

Nope, it's a contradiction wherever you live.
