I'm sick of people equating Socialism with Communism, they don't have to be the same thing. I mean, look at France: a democratic socialism.
And I'm moderately sick of people equating communism with the fascist system of the Soviet Union or Red China, which were not very communist at all in practice. Real communism is democratic.
As defined by Marx, initially a revolution is needed, followed by a dictatorship of the proletariat, and ultimately the social libertarian system, where democracy is obsolete, as there is no government.
Note, not democracy as we tend to see it. What we tend to have is either a Republic or a representative democracy, whereas true democracy really is no government, with everyone voting on every issue.

I'm Canadian and 15. I don't like the Conservatives, my parents don't like the Liberals and a vote for the green party, is a vote for no one. NDP is what's left I suppose. Go NDP!

Conservative, but I'm not sure if I'm really still Republican or not. I've become very unhappy with the U.S. Republican party recently. From their horrible candidate choices in '08 to some of the boneheaded stuff they've let people get away (Bush and Guantanamo, Patriot Act, etc) with, it's just... Ugh.

But I'm no Democrat, either. There's just some stuff they push for that I'm very much against (lots of lame stuff done in the name of Conservation, etc.)

I guess maybe I'm an Independent now? If I had any idea what a Libertarian was, maybe I'd go with that.
I libertarian is a person with the belief that government should be limited. We view taxes as thief ( but a needed evil) and that the free market should be able to handle all ecomic issues. A person can do what ever they want as long as it doesnt interfere with other lives (so drugs and of victimless crimes would would be legal). They believe in personal liberties and that a govenment doesn't have the right to tell people how to live there lives.

On a national scale, with 200mio people, this wouldn't work. However, if you broke the country down into smaller societies with own sovereignty, perhaps. But as history has clearly taught us with USSR, China, Cuba, North Korea etc. Marx' ideal is a utopia. The "Proletarian Dictatorship" link is communism's weakest point, because some power mongler always ends up in office.

EDIT: Much like how capitalism is liberalism's weakest point. Not everyone well be truly free if those with power and money only look out for themselves.

Good point about the dictatorship of the proletariat, although that's a transition phase that comes before communism, but that's quibbling over details. In any case, it's not a dictatorship in the way we think of them: the working majority share power instead of the capital-owning minority; in the Soviet Union and China, power was concentrated in the hands of a tiny minority. But "true" communism is democratic.

It's called libertarian socialism or left libertarianism. Libertarianism isn't equal to anarchism and I'm still trying to understand how you're confusing socialism with authoritarianism or fascism.

Though I should have been more clear, left libertarian.

That settles it-I'm in. I still think some types of drugs need to be illegal (the heavy stuff), and quite a few crimes might not be as victimless as they seem, but I'm definitely in favor of a smaller government, free market and lower taxes (and more responsible money management.)

I guess I'm Libertarian.

I've decided: Notgiveafuckican

I don't wish to bow to a government. I'd truly prefer to live outside all laws, I wouldn't go round killing and raping or dealing drugs or anything, I'd just wander where I wanted, take occasional jobs to build funds then continue on my merry way.

I figure I may gain some sort of insight into the way of things.

I can't really pair myself with any one of the parties because I am a socialist. However, I do think that Obama is putting this country on the right track with his future work on the infrastructure, and him actually caring about the environment.

Conservative Libertarian. Not like Cheney conservative, more like Heinlein conservative. Tradition is important, but it shouldn't be allowed to get in the way of new ideas. And people have the right to do what they want, as long as "what they want" doesn't harm another.

Of course, I also believe the jail system in particular and government in general needs to be completely scrapped and retried. Don't know what that makes me...

what socialist do they create a big government that regulates everything. They arent fascist though because the govenment doesnt run the free market they just regulate it. i have no idea how you got fascist from what i said. I know that not all libertarians aren't anarchist's (hell iam not) again how you got that out of the post confuses me as well. But all libertarians do believe in as little government regulation as possible and if you dont believe in that you are not a libertarian.

You haven't given a list of political views. You have listed mostly AMERICAN political parties.

I am fairly liberal.

Democrat with Green party sympathies...sadly, the US will never get out of the "two party" frame of mind. We do like us some vs mode. This guy vs this guy, us vs them, Pepsi vs Coke, etc. etc.

In reply to you, those groups don't sum it up.

I'm a proud beleiver in dictatorships / Monarchy.

I'd rather have a government where one person will actually get something done as apposed to a government that screw me over whenever they can.

(I realise the irony thank you.)
