Just wanted to poll the masses here, if this has been asked before I don't care because I want a fresh set of numbers here in 2011, thanks.

What are you willing to pay for in a video game? Downloadable content? New maps? New armor? Upgrades? Are you willing to pay to play the game online? What about campaign expansions?

I will only pay for:
Singleplay DLC- New area, higher level cap if there is one, new weapons, better armor, ect.
Multiplayer- Maps, weapons, ranks

I don't mind subscriptions if the game merits it.

As far as DLC is concerned, it depends on more than content for me. What I'm sick of is a game being released, you pay $60 to buy it new, two weeks later there's $20 DLC with a new campaign/maps/whatever. It just makes me feel like that content should have been include with the game.

I dunno, first off, I don't have the money to buy anything really. xD But if I did have money, I'd definitely want to spend it on Multiplayer expansions, whether it be weapons, map packs, or even just the multiplayer capability itself!

I'd most likely start with any un-included multiplayer modes first, then maps, then weapons. I can't remember any of the other options though. o_O

I'll always check out new bits of singleplayer with new areas and quests and stuff. Ever since shivering isles taught me that awesome game + something that with a little more cash could have been its own awesome game = better than real life.

I don't think I've ever played something on a subscription or bought DLC. The only DLC I've played is stuff that comes with the game when I buy it.

Campaign story-mode expansions. Just like expansion packs of the past, only less bulky... okay, and Rock Band songs...

campaign extensions, for example i'm pretty happy i bought lair of the shadow broker, best 7$ invested in a long while hehe, but i'd never buy their weapons DLC's (even if it's only 2$).

Well, it depends.

I think the industry was good enough 5 years ago, when you could buy a new game for $50, or $10 less than today. I find it horrible that, if you buy 3 games now-a-days, it costs almost as much as a gaming console. I know devs gotta make money, but I view that as unreasonable.

Also, most DLC today is a complete ripoff. Gotta say that. Especially if it has anything to do with activision. Oh boy, I get 3 maps for $15. Total ripoff. However, some DLC is an exception to this. For example, back when Bethesda was more interested in making people happy than making their wallets fat, the Shivering Isles was the best thing since sliced bread.

Would have been much more clear if you said "what DLC are you willing to pay for?" I was thinking "I'm willing to pay for a game in my video game..."

Well I paid for whatever extra crap came with AC2 on steam, (the extra 4 bucks used up my visa gift card perfectly) don't know if I've seen it yet, so can't comment. Lair of the shadow broker was definitely the best DLC I've seen. Compared to full price definitely worth it, less so compared to what I paid, but still very strong. I'll die before I pay for horse armor though

I would pay for hats as long as it is tf2, where the main objective is having more fancy hats than someone, as opposed to killing people.

I'd probably go for campaign/story mode expansions, but only if I really really loved the game. Otherwise I'm very sceptical of DLC for single player titles, especially day 1 DLC because there's really no excuse for that not to have been in the game to begin with.

This, minus the multiplayer part. Great example: Last DLC I purchased was Dead Money for New Vegas.

I'll fork up a little bit extra for most anything, if I like the game enough. Not big on multiplayer, though, so usually it's only the single player stuff that I'm buying for, or even looking at, for that matter. The exception was the Knives Chau character for the Scott Pilgrim game, and the Hellequin for AC: B, which doesn't really count, as it didn't actually cost me any money.

I won't buy pointless DLC like weapons or alternate outfits. I will by new missions, new locations, basically anything that adds up to more gameplay and an extended experience is fine by me, provided I like the game to start with.

There are a few exceptions, but these days I generally won't buy games for any more than £20 (around $30).
For DLC I usually won't pay any more than £5 or £10 but it depends on the scale of the game.

I buy all sorts of crap when it comes to DLC, It'll mostly just be stuff like new levels and gameplay though, as much as I'd like some new costumes they're not worth any more than $1.

All of that sound excellent, given the correct price. I'll buy ANYTHING that adds content if I want to continue playing the game after I've beaten it. Unlocks are a different matter. If it's on the disk, NO BUY. I'd rather work for my SPECS kit or whatever in BC2.

I'll usually buy anything campaign lengthening, although i refuse to buy the last Borderlands DLC because my friends decided to rip all the challenge out of the game by using moded shields and weapons.

I'll take multiplayer maps that are reasonably priced (fuck you Activision)

LoTSB is still the best DLC i've played so far
