Okay off topic as I do not have the game yet, am just scouring the net for info so that I am ready the minute it arrives, but if you can lose souls like that, why carry them around?
Why not spend them on levels as soon as you can?

If I was to pick a single level overall, than probably a tie between Tomb of Giants and the Archives. ToG because it's dark even with the light source and the skeleton dogs pack a hefty punch. Archive because lot's of ranged attackers and the crystal mooks are a lot more deadly (even for Dark Souls) than their non-crystal counterparts.

But there are plenty of single sections that were way more frustrating than any complete level. The first time you meet the spear bows. Trying to go through New Londo while cursed before realizing there's an item for that. The first few times through the beginning of Lost Izalith before learning the best way fight the zombie-dragon-leg-things (followed by a huge relief when you realize they don't respawn).

Well, souls are used for everything, buying gear, upgrade items, levels, everything.

So even though you have 45k worth of souls, you might not actually want to level up, but spend them on other things.

45K is nothing though, I've lost more than 700K. Granted, I'd finished leveling (PvP is around the 125 mark, so you don't really have anything to spend them on after that).

So far Blighttown, but not the actual town part. The stupid freaking secret area, that tree hollow thing. Fuck that place. Fuck it to hell. Also the lava area after the spider *****, once you kill Ceaseless Discharge it gets filled up with super tough enemies. I died twice really fast and was like "Nope" so I'm doing londo ruins now. Just drained it.

I also briefely went into the Archives as well as Catacombs. Archives don't seem too bad - tough, but not too bad. Catacombs I was like "wtf" with the skulls and the skeletons that keep raising themselves so I got the hell out. I think I have a blessed weapon now I can use, though. If not I'll wait till I do.

Sen's Fortress was a *****, as was finding the bonfire for that area. I hated that. God damn that place. HATE. I was stuck for ages. But I got through it. Yay me. Now stuck in Anor Londo. Got to the Giant Blacksmith, now got my Furysword, happy! But I gotta face the boss. Or whatshisnameingoldarmour. Less happy. Dead times.

I haven't even reached most of these locations yet! Undead Burg at the start of the game was fairly frustrating. Blighttown wasn't so much frustrating as a case of 'really? Valley of Defilement again?' I just dont find swamp environments interesting or fun in any way.

Sen's Fortress? Yes. Starting to panic and dying just before getting to the bonfire was a Big No moment. But then I kicked Iron Golems ass, first time, no help. It felt good.

Smough and Ornstein can go die in several fires. But, aside from that. The tomb of the giants is really frustrating on its first playthrough. But now I know a few short cuts that makes it 10 times easier to get through, and gets the silver serpent ring (the bonus souls for kills ring.)

Hmm. The Catacombs were frustrating for me the first time around. At the time, I didn't know that you had to use divine weapons to keep those skeletons down. So I ended up knocking them off the cliff until I found the necromancer keeping them up. It was so much easier once that guy in the Depths actually told me what I needed to do.

New Londo was also kind of annoying. The ghosts cannot be killed unless you use the curse item. And even then their ability to float through the walls and under the floors made them really hard to hit. And if that wasn't enough, I found out that I didn't even need to go to that place until much later in the game. I thought I could find the second bell down there so I wandered around aimlessly in order to figure out how where it was.

I was reading through the options and thinking yeah I aced all of those areas i'm really pro.

Then I got to Ash Lake and I remembered getting stuck down there, triple cursed at like lvl 16 vitality. The Hydra 1 hit killed me every time I tried to leave the Dragon Covenant Bonfire and made me rage quit for 3 days straight.

I will concede that Sens Fortress took me a while to get the hang of.

I beat Blight Town and Tomb of Giants without dying even once though, and the Capra Demon died on the second try probably 3 minutes after failing it the first time.

Smough and Ornstein, it took me three days to beat those bastards. I didn't really have any trouble after that.

How has The Painted World not been mentioned yet? The toxic, bloated gooks, the anorexic ravens, the phalanx thing, the introduction (for me anyway) of the skeleton wheels? Are you guys jesting?

Which one had the first Capra demon? I had kinda assumed up to that point that blocking was worthless versus Bosses, little did I know you needed to versus him!

I need to get further in that game.

I'd have to say Blighttown. Not because it was difficult, but because I came back to Firelink Shrine after beating it, and realized the firekeeper was dead. I mean seriously? Couldn't I have gotten a little warning before that happened?
If I had known that guy was going to kill her, I would've just killed him the second I found him.
They did the same thing in Demon's Souls but at least that guy looked evil. And he only managed to kill one random, useless NPC before I figured it out and killed him.

No Blighttown eh? Uh what's the name of the place that opens up right after you get the bells rung? The one with the lizard people? Maybe that one once if i finish it.

Otherwise Demon Fucking Ruins. Whoever designed the map layout needs to be taken out and shot. "oh hey let's put a OHKO boss right after the bells!" You're the fucking reason my main character is now abandoned Ceaseless Discharge. 45000 souls lost. That's like... 10 levels!
Lol you're not supposed to be in the demon ruins until after you go through Anor Londo. Really you shouldn't go there until you obtain the 4 King's lord soul.

True, but one of the gleeful cruelties of Dark Souls is that the game never tells you that and the door is right there at the end of Queelag's Domain just begging for intrepid and ultimately doomed explorers to wander through it.

So far, everything leading up to about five minutes beyond the Asylum Demon.

Because that's all I've managed to complete.

This fucking game...
