I use cheats.

I don't buy games to play them, I but them to dominate them so throughly my pixelated foes remain on guard once the console is off.

Or I did before games got rid of cheats, now I play them on whatever I hit while mashing start to hurry shit up.

Depends. If I play S.T.A.L.K.E.R., I always play on the hardest setting with a bunch of realism mods enabled, so it's REALLY REALLY hard(like you have 15 bullets for your AK, one pistol magazine and need to cross a railroad guarded by 5 Soldiers who have full magazines, that's kinda impossible).

Hardcore to be honest, Mainly because.. If I play a game on the hardest difficulty and I get used to it after I complete the game and feel like going for achievements and that, it's easier to get because you find Hardcore, Normal.

I always play on normal except RTS games (I can't get a hang of them)... I find games on easy quite dull, I like challenge, but there's a really thin border between challenge and frustration.

there's als this issue with japanese games (mainly those made by capcom)- they are almost boring on easy setting and their normal difficulty is the same as our hard difficulty.

Normal, when I have the choice. If I've beaten a game before, and I did really well on normal, I'll try hard the second time 'round.

I do the first level on easy to get used to the controls go to normal so I can get some minor acivements and then go for hardcore etc for the "well done you did it on really hard, feel like a big man now" to which I reply "yeeeeaaah"

Depends on the game and how I'm feeling. Take Gears of War as an example: if I'm feeling like some good-old chainsaw fun, then Casual is the only real option. If I want to test myself, Insane is the way to go.

Normal, as I want to get through the game with a bit of a challenge, but not so much that I can't see how the story finishes.

I'll normally play on normal the first time through, unless it's a game/series/genre I'm experienced with and want a challange, in which case I'll put it on the highest I can.

Usually I start on normal, then progress as I get bored. For FPS game I skip straight to hard, and for RTS games I occasionally cheat or give myself a giant ally so I can turtle and create my fantasy super-fortress of death.

I usually start on hard so that I don't get babied into thinking a game is easier than it is. I eventually will always play on the soul crushing legendary/expert/Vet difficulty though.
