I went straight to the hardest setting and naturaly I'm getting owned.
But I refuse to make it easier.

I usually do medium because I'd like to finish the game without throwing stuff across the room, but I feel like a puss if I do easy.

Medium first, drop down to easy if I'm dying every five minutes (doesn't happen terribly often, though DMC3 kicked my arse at the start and I needed to to continue) and I'll probably replay the game on Hard at some point. If it's a game I'm really into I'll progressively make my way up the difficulty levels until I've done them all.

Medium. I like to get into my games, be challenged but not overwhelmed.

Of course, Fallout 3 is coming out and, in the depths of my horrible brain is the possibility it won't live up to my expectations. Therefore I might play it on hard, just so the feeling is lessened by ass-clenching, friction-burned-balls difficulty.

I usually go for 2nd hardest first, so I can have some replay value by playing it again on the hardest difficulty.

I tend to leave the difficulty on its default setting, whatever that may happen to be. That would usually translate to 'medium' unless the developer takes pride in smacking its consumers about the face and neck.

I usually start of on easy, although some I have tried hard. I generally end up at some point playing a game on all of its difficulties.

Hard for me. I see no point in playing "legendary" or "realistic" mode because the damage tends to only be realistic against me.

If by that, you mean: "I shoot you in the head three times, you don't die, you shoot me in the shins, I lose 90% of my health or die".

I seriously know what you mean.

I tend to play my games of choice on the hardest settings. Primarily because I want the challenge. In a well designed game, a high level of difficulty can add to the story experience. Making already tense sequences harder. Scary moments scarier.

I agree totaly, I find if the game is harder its much more immersive for me.
especialy when I die way too much and start smashing my keyboard.
Thats actuly when I'm having fun (not sarcastic at all)(no realy)

Haven't played Far Cry 2 yet, so I can't answer your question about which I started on for that game.

But usually when I get to choose a difficulty, I usually chose the middle(if there are three.) And then go through on the hardest. But if there are 4, I usually go with medium for about 1-2 levels. If it's decently difficult on medium, I'll stick to it. But if I can pretty much play it blindfolded then I move up to hard. And then play again on the hardest once I beat it on hard.

I usually play on the normal/medium setting because I like to dominate and I usually get frustrated and annoyed when I die. If I want to enjoy the challenge then sometimes I play on the harder difficulties but usually I just want to enjoy the game and I find that playing like Rambo is a lot more fun

I generally start on medium difficulty and if I liked the game enough to play it again then I'll ramp the difficulty up a bit. It's not that I'm scared of the harder difficulties or anything, I just don't enjoy making a game harder for the sake of it being harder. I generally try and play games for their content, not their supposed difficulty. I just don't find that making a game harder adds anything to it, other than frustration.
