Always Hardest, Learn To Play At That Level And That's The One You Get Good At Right From The Start.

Why Start And Learn Normal, And Then Need To Break Yourself Of Bad Habits To Master Hardest?

Its Ballsy, Efficient And Just Plain Makes You Better Right From The Get-go. Going From Insane Bots Straight Up On DoW To Online Play? I Didn't Lose A Game For 3 Weeks Until Some Other King Of Men Who Had Obviously Done The Same Took Me Down.

Hardest: Now You're A Man.

depends on achievements basically.

I USUALLY play on the easier settings, because I play games so that I feel like an unstoppable killing machine, and that fantasy is broken pretty quickly when I'm the weakest thing in the game

I usually jump to Hard, but if I'm not feeling that confident (eg if I find the game's mechanics unfamiliar or it has a reputation for making burly lumberjacks break down and cry) I start on Medium.

My immediate jumping to Hard nowadays is sort of atonement for always playing on Easy when I was a kid.

Medium/Normal

If it's too easy, I'll jump to Hard, as is the case with Blue Dragon, although the bosses were quite a pain on hard, at least the normal enemies put up a fight.

It depends on the game
I usually start on medium, but there are games I only play on easy/hard. If I start on medium, I will continue playing until I have completed on each difficulty.

I started Ninja Gaiden 2 on the highest possible difficulty.(it's the only way this game should be played)
I refuse to play CoD4 on anything higher than medium.(the only change is that enemies become a bit more aggressive with grenades and your health is dropped to 1/3rd of what it is on normal)
I play Half Life 2 on easy since there's barely any difference between the difficulties.(enemies doing more damage doesn't matter when you know where the enemies come from and are able to kill them before they see you)
In any RTS, I only play skirmishes so I take the highest difficulty bot, and give it(if possible) "Steamroller" AI.

When I get a game I always play it how its meant to be played - on the hardest setting, unless its stupidly hard, then I may take it down to the second hardest.

I play on medium first then work my way up. Though now that I actually have enough money to buy more than one game a month I might start on hard and see how that goes.

Normal for the first play through so I jut play it to take my time and enjoy. Then when its finished, I crank it up to the hardest difficulty and complete it on that

I typically go for medium or hard, but to be honest I prefer games where the damage is realistic against you ; and the AI.

If it feels like I'm just being weighed down it kills the immersion.

If there are 3 options, usually hardest. If there are 4 or more, second hardest. If second hardest is too easy initially, I bump it up.

That got me in trouble with oblivion. I set it 20 notches up from the middle and could barely kill the rats in the tutorial. :)

Because I actually enjoy playing games, I prefer not to make so ass hard that I can't get anywhere. Medium first runthrough, hard for the second...if the game is good.
