Absolutely nothing. I played violin for a few years, but cannot remember any bit of actually reading the notes and stuff. :/

Been playing music for two years, and took Music Theory I in college.

Enough to know that I don't know that much I suppose, but I know my way around a score at least.

I'm actually a music teacher and part time nerd, so I know a lot about theory. It's essential for any competent musician, IMO.

I know a lot about music. I've been playing since I was 9-ish, and I've been going around on a lot of instruments since then - piano, voice, percussion, guitar, and violin, to name a few. I know a lot about music theory, too. I've written a few songs on my guitar and, messing around a bit, I've made songs for full bands.

I have absolutely no musical talent what-so-ever, and thus have never played any instrument or know anything about music theory. I kind of wish I would have atleast tried a little when I was younger to play something, but never really got around to it.

I've being playing piano seriously (with a teacher) for about 3-4 years now, and I have to have passed a certain amount of music theory to go onto the next piano grade. So yeah, I know quite a bit. Never tried writing anything more than 2 or 3 lines though..

Pretty much all of it, from things like textbook AMEB theory, pre-classical contrapuntal techniques through to things like acoustics, psychoacoustics, sound physics, etc. I teach music, I studied music, I now work in the music industry.

Actually very few do it well, probably because most people who try it go into it with the attitude of thinking "anybody can do that". Trust me, I get rap submissions every week at my record label and while anybody can turn on a drum machine and add some sub-bass, very, very few people know how to write a decent rap beat. There's an unquestionable art to it, which involves knowledge of more things than just the obvious.

I know very basic bits (and I mean VERY basic) from playing guitar for a few years. Playing blues and rock, you don't need much.

I did grades 1 and 2 theory back when I still played piano. It was the most wretched and mindnumbing thing ever, but I've found it pretty helpful since then. I occasionally write songs, and I wouldn't be able to do that if I hadn't done theory. That and apparently you need to do up to a certain grade of theory to complete a certain grade of piano. I forget. I must confess that I cheated in my theory exam anyway; you had to memorise two folk songs and I sure as hell wasn't going to do that.

Care to prove it?

As for me, very little I can't even read music but I shred like a Baito. That's even, I guess.
