I prefer indoor concerts most of the time. The only time I go to outdoor concerts is during festivals, and I don't think it's got the same intense feeling you get in a small indoor venue. It also feels like being closer to the band, being indoor.

Indoor. Preferably a small venue not some massive arena. The acoustics are crap then.

Glasgow Barrowlands and Edinburgh Liquid Rooms FTW!! ^_^
I live 5 minutes away from the Barrowlands and the Carling Academy in Glasgow :D

It really depends on what sort of band you're going to see. I saw Metallica at Leeds last month and part of the fun was the explosions, fireworks and fire that they had throughout their show. Since you can't get those sort of things in an indoor venue it made the experience that much better.

For the most part though, indoor gigs are the best since you get far better sound quality and a better sense of intimacy and immersion than their outdoor counterparts. I'm going to see Machine Head, Slipknot and Gogol Bordello in December, can't wait :D

Outdoor. Lots of indoor gigs end up being incredibly hot and sweaty and you end up needing to drink half your bodyweight not to pass out.

Not a problem outside.

Plus outdoor gigs are usually a lot bigger and generally more epic.

it depends on the show really, some are better indoors and some work well outdoors

i will say light shows are better at an indoor show
