It really depends on what sort of band you're going to see. I saw Metallica at Leeds last month and part of the fun was the explosions, fireworks and fire that they had throughout their show. Since you can't get those sort of things in an indoor venue it made the experience that much better.
For the most part though, indoor gigs are the best since you get far better sound quality and a better sense of intimacy and immersion than their outdoor counterparts. I'm going to see Machine Head, Slipknot and Gogol Bordello in December, can't wait
