That would be true for the ones that were on Arrakis (and the ones that came to be on the Bene Gesserit homeworld, not to mention all the other possible locations as they took sandtrouts with them during the exodus) however, towards the end of the story, a water inhabiting species is derived from the original, or is at least rumored to have been.

As myself, DRAGON!!! Dragons are by far my favourite "badass" ridable (rideable?) creature. They can fly, they can fly fast, they can breathe fire, and they look intimidating.

P.S. The only time I ride a pony/unicorn is in Red Dead Redemption. =3
