homogenising in the name of wider audience appeal is the worst thing in gaming, along with tacked on multiplayer which usually serves the same purpose.
While I'm not of the opinion that all of the problems the industry faces rest solely on the shoulders of the gaming community, I otherwise mirror most of your thoughts on the matter.TheKasp said:Gamers - but not the way described.
I don't see a difference in gamers. They are all the same to me, be it the dudebro who only plays Madden and CoD or the selfproclaimed hardcore gamer who swears by how superiour his games are. They are all the biggest problem or your mom playing Angry Birds. They are the same, there is no 'hardcore' or 'casual' distinction in what games you play because there is no definition for 'hardcore games', the distinction is only in how much time you put into gaming. And even there: Unless you are not one of those professionals you are equal to the 'filty casual mom'.
Because the gaming 'community' contradicts itself on every topic. DRM and always on is bad? Then why the flying fuck is D3 one of the best selling titles for PC? You hate CoD because it is the same but buy the same shit from other companies who never change. You proclaim how games today are worse but deliberatly ignore every shitty game that came out during your favorite timeperiod (this bugs me the most - I recently dug out a gaming magazine from 2000 and god was it full with shitty titles I never even heard about who were obvious copycats from then successfull ones). I could go on but:
The biggest problem in gaming is the gaming 'community'. Because every other problem stems from them alone.
Same as with Kasp, I agree with you in part.canadamus_prime said:Publishers. All of 'em. Every last one 'em. Second worst thing would gamers themselves for justifying every bullshit excuse the Publishers make to justify the crappy decisions that they make.
THANK YOU; after walking away from my PC I thought about writing about this but in a longer and grumpier fashion, but yes. If gamers are your reason you have to include yourself amongst them. Because no matter your choices, somebody will think your choices are stupid.Nomanslander said:I'll go with DRM. As much as other gamers can seem appalling, we are them and they are us. A society as a whole should be judged by its worst examples, so I can't call out other gamers (especially the foul mouthed CoD types) because I find it hypocritical.
^This basically all the way. I understand that as people we're all going to have differing opinions, but most of the time I see people stating their opinion as fact, and that's what I find annoying. I really wish most people would just say, "In my opinion" before they discuss what they dislike.TheKasp said:Gamers - but not the way described.

Yep because we all know that the gaming community is in fact a hivemind and is not made up of millions of individual people with their own opinions and views. Did it ever occur to you that the people bitching about CoD and D3 are hold on this will blow your mind, not the same fucking people?TheKasp said:Because the gaming 'community' contradicts itself on every topic.
