I am one myself, and those that aren't would tolerate them the same way people tolerate others who are fans of Xbox, spiderman, all of duty, facebook, chrono trigger, etc. Everyone has there likes and dislikes and we're glad to have that to show individuality. It's a shame how many people still ca't tolerate certain subjects and believe that the world should be consisted of everyone liking and disliking the same things as eachother. So a furry comes out and says he is one, so what it's not the end of the world. If only the world could respond to such a thing with "Sure, ok man" And not *Insert troll statement here*

hehe it kind of reminds me of a discussion about religion when i manged to remember the following quote:

"religion is like a p*nis, its fine to have one, it's fine to be proud of it but you don't have to whip it out in public and start waving it around"

in other words as long as someone/thing don't try to force itself upon me i could not care much less...

And really "KILL IT WITH FIRE"... not the best choice to put up maybe ;-)

Actually, that's another question. What exactly defines a furry?
It can be VERY widely defined, but...The general consensus: Having an interest in anthropomoprhic animals, be it a deep facination of them just in art form, roleplaying, or the fursuits.

Of course, most people think it's mainly the latter, hence how they're so consistently charicatured in the media. Most of them...Um, us, are generally normal-ish people, and the fursuiters and yiffers take up five percent of it, if that.

I ok with them so I don't hate them for the whole concept to it.
I can only pray they avoid the ponies, the sweet, innocent ponies!
SUPRISINGLY, There's VERY little pornography of them. To be honest, I don't think i've seen ANY. It seems to be a majorly taboo thing with furries, but just perfectly innocent fanart or whatever of Ponies by Furries? Trust me. Could not be more popular.

So they're not avoiding them, but they're using them in all the best (ie innocent) ways.

(Edited for clarity)

What people like doing in their personal life is compeletly up to them, ill accept them as long as they don't shove their beliefs down my throat (trust me, the amount of Christians that hate me for asking for real evidence that their god exists and is all benevolent and powerful is stupid :p)

They are creepy as hell but as long as they do not then condemn others for their fetishes then I do not care.
Nothing worse than seeing someone who wants to fuck animals calling someone who wants to fuck children sick. I can't stand hypocrisy.
You are confusing furry with bestiality... There is no correlation between the two.

Furry is an obsession with anthropomorphic animal-people such as Sonic, Krystal, etc. and really no different than people that are really in to anime. (there's people that fetishize anime and dress up as characters for cons. Same with Furries.)

Bestiality is the aforementioned fucking of animals.

I don't get what is wrong with being a furry, they aren't all perverted bastards, most of them -believe it or not- are average Joes. Granted there are some perverted stuff amongst their community but c'omon bring me a community of people that do not have perversions (Asexual and Nonsexual communities do not count)

I myself have a race of creatures in my fantasy world that can and could be described to be a furry race. (Even tho they aren't "furries")

It is not always sexual! There are A-sex furries... There are people who just like to think about being something different. Furry doesn't equal Perversions.

Furry as a word can be used to refer to any kind of fantasy/scifi specie that is a humanoid with animalistic features.
Furry is more of a Fandom than a fetish, only about 1/3rd of furries are in to a fetish furry. That is a minority or a large group, that means there are a lot of them, but they are still a minority!!!

Incorrect, sir. I know a furry, and he has let know that it definitely isn't a sexual thing. In fact, he also said that you don't need an animal costume to be a furry.
What you did there, do you see it?

Me: "statistically a large proportion of this group are X."
You: "I know one person who isn't X (or says he isn't) and thus none of them are."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Furry_fandom#Sexual_aspects

As per every time I argue this, I have figures that back me up. Looks like out of every 5 furries 4 are jacking it, weird huh? Looks like maybe they don't want to admit to it but also want their fetish pubic.
hey there! nice little post you have there, oh look! a wikipedia article, how nice!!, too bad its a biased source.

let me explain you something by example, see those Japanese cartoons??? the ones with the hot girls? yeah, there are probably hundreds of them out there, now if you ask a fan of such cartoons "would you be interested sexually in them" the ratings will be the same (actually, they would probably be even higher because its not a taboo subject) its normal for a human being to have some sort of sexual attraction to what they find exiting/interesting and even more, that have some sort of sex appeal (Minerva mink from Animaniacs, Crystal from Star Fox, just to name a few)

now, how many fan fiction have you ever noticed about your favorite series? yeah, its not even the tip of the iceberg

why do i call this a bias? because if you go to ANY entry in wikipedia related to the fandom in the Internet about any topic that could potentially have sex appeal, not ONE will list how many people find sexual interest in say "MLP: Friendship is magic", or the followers of "DR. WHO" (two series with a LOT of fandom)

the only Fandom that is "crossed" because it finds certain aspects of their "interests" sexually attractive are "Furryes", some say its bestiality (when its not) some say we all wear fursuits (which is not true) and some say that its a mental illness (haha, this one is the best of them all, its called "Voyeurism", the same EVERYONE haves)

that´s why we as a community try to "redefine" the aspects of the fandom, if you do a quick search, you will find that "Furry" and "Yiffer" are two terms completely different, this of course, outside of the "mainstream" audiences, they have already made their mind about us, and refuse to help us redefine the term, quite a normal reaction actually.

that way we can touch the subject of "Furry" without calling forth the image of sexualized anthropomorphic beings, its like "Anime" and "Hentai" one is for "clean" material and the other is for "dirty" material, both are so close together that if you show me a lover of anime, i can show you a lover of hentai, and i bet you the rating of "4 out of 5" is the exact same in that fandom, or any fandom actually.

Now, "Hentai", (which is where this fandom came out) is about "sexualized" toon idols, the "Yiffers" are doing the same thing, only problem is that their toons are from "Warner Brothers" or "Hanna Barbera", and many of them didn't do "humans" they did "anthropomorphic animals", and then they discovered they could make "Any" animal anthropomorphic (just like the "Hentai" lovers discovered they could create their own characters) its the same coin, but one side was born in Japan and the other in the United States.

Be respectful.

Personally, I think they're okay. Some of them are a bit out there and give us bad press (See: Chewfox [Maury], Sabrefox [CSI], Kiira [My Strange Addiction]) but a good percentage are OK people, if a bit nerdy.
Honestly to me, furries are a very unique set of characters for all sorts of things. I find them to be interesting, cool and mainly awesome (but that applies to art, I love artistic pictures of anything well designed and detailed). Personally they get more heat then furries should ever get over anything else.

Back then I was sort of into it, drawing some furries and based my character off a Red Panda anthro, but then I just moved on because I like to set myself with different things. Now, I am into a show which you can tell what it is by my Avatar. Wait- does that still make me a furry? Because my Avatar is a pony clapping his hooves with humanized hair.. ..?
yes it does, thats how the furryes began, with their favorite cartoon.

well, they're certainly fun to troll... I can give them that...
it depends. if they're the closet-furry definition of furry (ie. just enjoys media with anthropomorphic characters; so yeah, anyone who watched TMNT was a "furry" :p), they're generally okay. but then there's the weeaboo/furries...
"OMG, YIFF IS SO KAWAII!!! DESU DESU MOI KITTYFACE =3"
in that case, well, maybe there's a REASON fur is flammable...

"Furrydom" seems to be very wide with different sub-fandoms yet it's all too easy for us to just shove it in as one big category. I've seen some incredibly disturbing furry pics that make me want to quit the internet forever, yet I have also seen some really cool furry artwork from talented people that isn't sexual in the slightest.

Different furries are into different things, and I don't think it's fair to label the whole fandom as an abomination because of the more shocking and vocal minority who give the rest of them a bad image.

Furries are people who like an aspect of the furry fandom, which can stem from watching shows like TMNT, but liking those shows doesn't automatically make you a fur.

Most furries aren't the type that push it in your face either, furries hate the annoying "I <3 YIFF =3=3 KAWAI" type as much as anyone else.

I'm the kind of guy who says "Blasphemers! Burn them all at the stake!" on the net, but if it actually came down to it, I'd protect them with all I have. It's just a fetish at the end of the day.

woah, since when do furryes want to fuck animals!?

you got it all kinds of wrong dude,

we like "Anthropomorphic" beings, not only "animals" tell that to "any" furry and you will get the exact same response.
