I for one can't WAIT for E3. Nintendo's taking a real gamble here, hopefully it won't turn out like Microsoft. By releasing their console first, Nintendo has to be ABSOLUTELY SURE that what they've got can trump anything the competition can dish out. Otherwise, they're just giving Sony and Microsoft plenty of time to see what they've got and make something superior. Microsoft tried this with the 360 and it led to the RROD and a constant battle for second place as opposed to Nintendo's comfortable seat on top.

RUMORS (ie. NOT TRUE, from multiple sources):

The Controllers:
-will have a touch screen
-will be their own handheld

The Console itself:
-will be 3D
-will feature motion controls
-will be backwards compatible with Wii and Gamecube
-will feature it's own screen
-will feature better graphics than PS3 and 360

So Escapist, what do you guys think of it so far? What games would you like to see? What do you think Nintendo could do with this? Way I see it, it could end up a lot like a large-scale DS. For example, maybe have a Zelda game with the map and inventory on the controller screen. But it's Nintendo, they'll totally blow us away. Sony and Microsoft go for a passing grade; updated graphics, more features, improved online, basically a general update. Nintendo go for an A+ with extra credit. They NEED to blow people away. They'll do SOMETHING. I don't know what they'll do, but it'll be something amazing...

well, I can tell you I don't have thoughts on it cause I've never seen the thing before. Also, Gamespot's article on it has the CEO of Nintendo saying it WON'T have 3D.

I'm going to keep an eye on it because I was a huge Nintendo fan as a kid but this generation has been relatively bland. SMG, SSBB, Metroid Prime 3 and LoZ:TP have been the only really good games released for the Wii. The NDS is different and has had good games.
I swapped over to 360 and PC about halfway through.

Oh, so we're trusting Gamespot again, now?

I don't care :D

Seriously though, I haven't bought a Nintendo console since the N64. There hasn't been many games for either the Gamecube or Wii that interest me enough to buy one and I doubt that this new one will be different. That and there is no way I'll have the money for a new console.

Honestly I can't wait. I'm upset I got rid of my Wii. If I only waited a year. Instead I bought a ps3, which was meh. I just don't play it that much, I think its a terrible idea to own a 360 and ps3. For me its just too many games that are serious. I want some regular fun games. So the wii2 better be backwards compatible, or else, and have online ala, psn or live. Also the wii2 connect to the 3ds.

Nintendo has actually really forced itself into a corner with this one, contrary to what some might think. By releasing their 8th gen console first they stand to make a tidy profit, yes, but it means they give sony and microsoft major development leads on them. If nintendo sets a graphics standard for 8th gen consoles, all microsoft and sony (and potentially another company that might try to strong arm its way into the market) would have to do is top that and nintendo no longer gets the "Most shades of brown" title. Same thing applies for online service, power and memory. They don't stand to cut significantly into microsoft and sony's market share either. 3D has been done, motion controls are old news and touchscreens have become as uniform as cars, pcs and cellphones. I definately don't see it selling as well as the wii and I would be surprised if anyone except the fanboys was falling over themselves to get it. Then again, there's a lot of fanboys...

Nintendo went off and did it's own little thing (motion controls and gameplay>online and grapics) and remained at the very top of the sales charts with basically nothing threatening it. Sony and Microsoft fought it out and Nintendo sat on the sidelines counting it's money.

Will it have good games? Will those games be released in my region or be released without regional lockout?

I get the feeling it will only be one or the other.

like I said before, they're JUST rumors, so assume it's all bullshit until E3.

Two things:
1) I can't wait to see the gimmick.
There's always one.
The Wii had motion controls, the DS had a touch screen, the 3DS is (drumroll please) 3D!
What's next? A built-in massage chair/waffle maker combo?
2) I wish Nintendo would build bigger consoles, so there would be more room for a good graphics chip and processing power.
I think the Gamecube and the Wii were both meant to be portable (The GC even had a handle) and so they weren't as powerful as they could have been.

II couldn't care less for the moment. I'll start showing interest when there's something more solid than rumours about it.

I'm really not in the mood to buy another console at the moment, so unless this thing looks super fucking amazing at E3 and its demonstrations before its release, I think I'm going to pass on this one until the price drops or something.

Oh who am I kidding. I'm going to get it regardless.

A side note, I think those allegedly leaked photos of the controllers with touchscreens, if real, are pretty damn cool. If they really do integrate touchscreens into the experience in an interesting and meaningful way, I might have to give this thing a look. Although it's going to make the controllers expensive as hell.

i don't really care that much if nintendo is making another console. to me the wii wasn't that great, most of the games for it were shovelware, it had really little processing power and felt like one big gimmick.
