Boy, I'd have to make an incredibly long list to answer the thread title. So instead of doing that, I am going to say that I don't know what the hell is going on with all these Bioshock threads lately. I mean, the idea was nice, but I did not feel that the player was given a very good playground in which to goof around with the powers we were given. In fact I did not like the game, no matter how good an idea the plasmid powers were. I think that I could mention more than a hundred games that I enjoyed more than Bioshock.

Sorry, but I've played faaar too many good games for me to consider Bioshock the best game ever. Hell, I love the game and all, but it's not even in my top 50.
Same feelings exactly, too many games that I own or looking to own that still interest me to say which is better.

No such thing as best or better! I liked the games but I enjoyed SSB Melee and Lineage 2 more than anything else at the moment.

How do you compare games anyway? Game play, story, originality or something with everything combined. I would have to disagree with story and originality, what games you enjoyed the most will only come down to opinion.

That's not an insult. Dead Space kicks BioShock in the face then proceeds to murder it's family because of it. It's in space, people. Everything is better in space.
I disagree with that...
Call of Duty 4 > Halo 3
Age of Empires > Starcraft
Not always better in space...

I loved BioShock, it is in my top 5 favorites... System Shock 2... erm... won't work on my computer... it crashes when I try to start the game... I got it to work on my laptop since it is a little less powerful, but haven't got around to getting games back on there since I reformatted it...

I will never understand all the Bioshock love. I'm hard pressed finding a WORSE game. Maybe Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing.

Team Fortress 2

You should add more options, I bet there are more people who think some other game was better then people who think Bioshock is the best.

RTS games if you're into RTS, MMO games if you're into MMOs, other shooters if you're simply not into Bioshock, RPGs is you're into RPGs... Must I go on?
No! Best game ever is completely objective, and obviously it's my favorite game, I just have to convince you! There must be a consensus.

To me Bioshock is up there with Mass Effect, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Legacy of Kain/Soulreaver, Fallout, and Half-Life 2 for games that's gameplay and story drove me to sleepless nights and several playthroughs.

Best is a little over the top. Bioshock was a great game, I loved it and played through it more than once. I'm also exitedly waiting for Bioshock 2 which should be coming Q1 2010. So I'd say there are better games but it was deffinitely above average.

Well, you see, my friend insists that Bioshock and System Shock 2 are the two best games ever
Tell him you like System Shock 1 much, much better. That should tick him off.

Essentially this boils down to a list thread, and we don't do that around here, or at least I thought. I mean really, is this a good discussion topic to anyone? "What's better than peanut butter and jelly?" would be on the same level as this. What's better than anything? Is anything better than anything else? Come on, guys.

I really enjoyed Bioshock for the enjoyable gameplay, but mostly for the fantastic story. It had a clear defined dramatic structure with pacing and tension, good writing, and a well-defined climax. However, it is not my favorite game, nor even close I think. Mass Effect, Portal, The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, Resident Evil 4, and Call of Duty 4 are all higher than it on my list.

You just. Can't. Beat. The Longest Journey and Dreamfall.
Just picked these up a few weeks ago, played 'em a bit. Graphics aren't too dated. Unfortunately I have to skip a lot of dialogue because I read it really fast, and although the voice acting is pretty good the conversations can get really weird (case in point, the landlady spending five solid minute telling me about being a lesbian and how awesome it is).

Hmmm it's good, but not the best of all time. For example I think Fallout 3 is better, and personally rate Fallout 2 higher than Fallout 3. Given that Wizardry 8 is my favorite game of all time, and the Ultima series almost ties it... well. :)

If I ever went through the painful process of trying to rank my favorite games of all time I'm not sure if Bioshock would be in the top 20. But it's definatly a great game, and this is coming from a guy who has played a ton of games.
