Most of my friends are and have been female. And I'm a male.

I get on with the womens much better than men for some reason. Always have.

Jokes on you, I don't have any friends!

I barely even speak to others on a day-to-day basis. Suckers!

My wife is my best friend. I am male, if that needs to be said (which, maybe happily, it does :)

That is neither weird, nor, to me, surprising. My best friends have almost always been women. I find men too caught up in the need to be men. I personally hate almost all sports. I hate pretending to give a damn. I hate wanting to talk about man things. It's not that I can talk about sappy crap with women, but that, frankly, there are no expectations about what I want to talk about.

Works for me.

I have two people who I would count as a best friend. One is a guy who has pretty much the exact same interest in movies, games, music, anime, and pretty much everything else as me. The other is a girl who is just fun to be around. We get along well. I think she may have had a crush on me after I graduated Highschool but I just acted dense and she moved on. I already lost one best friend because of a crush on me, I am not risking another.

I find it interesting that the majority of females who's answered so far have had male best friends. I wouldn't expect that.
Only by a small margin and I think quite a few of them are counting their boyfriends as their best friends.

Uuh, don't really have a best friend atm, since I got a tendency to break off friendships quite often, but based on my previous ones they've all been male. Whenever I've been close friends with girls we've ended up in bed together.
As for question two; I don't find it weird, but I've learned that I am a bit judgemental. Met a guy who is a really close friend to a girl I know. Thought he was gay until he begun discussing his love for boobs with me.

Just to clarify, is a best friend your closest friend, or any particularly close friend?

If the former: we're both dudes.
If the latter: well... [http://www.richmolnar.com/Sounds/Moe%20-%20I'm%20so%20lonely.wav]

I'm female (lesbian, though), and my best friend is a man. It's really annoying how people assume we are dating, or that I'll 'come to my senses' and stop being gay because of him.

Female with a male best friend.

I get so angry when people say that opposite genders can't be friends. All my life I've had friends from both genders, and they've always leaned more to the male side anyway. I guess it helps that I'm a tomboy, but I find it completely normal when people have best friends of the opposite gender.

Why can't we all be friends?! >:V
From what I've noticed,a lot of guys seem to think that if you have a stray sexual thought of someone, they can't be friends, which is why I've been told that men can't be friends with women, (Or other men if they're gay) because they are secretly betraying their friendship with their thoughts.

But who cares?

Of course, if it's not just some vague attraction, but strong unrequited love, it might not work.

I've distanced myself from someone I fell madly in love with because I knew she was straigth and in a relationship, and being close her was just too painful.
But apart from that, I'm fully cabable of having non-romantic relationships with people I'm attracted to.

All my friends are male (as am I), but I recently re-met a female cousin from New Zealand I haven't seen for about 5 years. She and I share similar interests, but I didn't know we'd get along so well. If she were to stay here in Australia (she's only here for holiday), I'm sure she'd become my best friend.

Female with a male best friend.

I think my mom always expected me to end up with him, until I was the best (wo)man at his wedding last year.

Eh? Don't really have one, I have very few friends IRL because I decided to stop wasting my time hanging around with the kind of arseholes who'll leave you to die at the roadside.

To the point it has caused Relationship problems for the both of us ( her with her boyfriends, and me with my girlfriends).
That's happened to me with a female friend to, my partner got really suspicious but I used the magic of words to deal with the problem, then her partner got really suspicious and I punched him in the face and the problem went away.

Male with two female best friends.

I trust them with pretty much anything. I obviously don't think this is weird at all.

Besides my partner, at any rate.

I would say male, but I have not seen them in the longest time and I do not know if they even still live.

I have two best friends, one is male, the other is female.
I'm female and people do often assume the dude and I are a couple, which is not the case.

I´m male and so are my best friends. I don´t find it strange when people have a best friend of the opposite gender, for a long time I´ve even been defending very hard that guys and girls can be best friends and only friends but then I realized that from my experience, all male-female best friend platonic relationships around me either weren´t completely platonic or didn´t remain completely platonic forever... go figure...

I'm a guy and my best friend is a girl (and not in that "My girlfirend is my best friend" way)
She's also a lesbian and married. That's not extremely relevant because we'd still be friends if she was straight and single.

But I'm in the same boat as OP where everyone I know has a similarly gendered best friend

I am female and my best friends are male. No, I don't find it unusual at all. Friendship should not be restricted by gender. If romance come out of it, that's up to the people involved. If not, then you just continue being friends. Nothing is wrong with that.
