I went trick or treating until I was 15, and spent the last two years before college dressing up in old clothes, stuffing my sleeves with newspapers, and pretending to be a scarecrow in the front yard long enough to scare anyone who got close. In college, I didn't bother because there were small and all-campus parties to go to instead.

Now that I live back in the suburbs with some family, I see no reason why I can't or shouldn't be able to put on a hockey mask or something and go back out. The "it stops when it's creepy" guideline is completely arbitrary and therefore utter shit. You should be able to go until it stops being fun or until the cops force you to stay inside.

you're only as old as how you feel
and if you feel under 18 someone should contact the FBI about you
lol

but it's not an age thing it's a maturity thing
my 18 year old friend has the maturity of a 12 year old so he's going trick-or-treating this year dressed as sasquach or something

and I have the maturity of a 12 year old who likes to pretend he's really mature so I stopped doing it years ago.
plus I don't like candy...or bacon

The age to stop trick or treating is the age that people stop giving you candy.

For the record, around here, people will give candy to at least 20 year olds.

I would say 21+

Because then it's kind of creepy. (Unless you're with your kids, then not so much.)
Yeah. Gotta agree with you there.

I'm 15 and I haven't gone for years, but that's just 'cause I chill with my friends.

Well, I'm 15, and this is going to be my first year not doing it, so I put 15. I actually wanted to keep going, though, but I think I look too old and people won't be kindly to the notion of a high school student running around stealing their sugar. I have a friend who's about a year younger than me, but looks about ten, so I figured maybe I could pass myself off as his older brother, but he says that would be "demeaning."

Why is there no age 9 option on the poll?! You got something against the number 9?!

OT: I stopped when I was 13. And I've never heard of a kid who stopped trick-or-treating at 8 or younger.

For me, it wasn't age, it was height. 6 feet at age 12 is a little intimidating for some people.

I've always believed start of high school was the limit. It's just that I feel that you have to start growing up then, and Trick or Treating is something that you can stop easily.

I'm going to be 17 and I'm going this year. It's NOT about the candy. It's the art of the thing. It's tradition. This isn't some cheap kids holiday. Making your own costumes, hanging out with friends, walking the neighborhoods, staying out all night and yes, the free candy is lovely.

Whether or not you feel it is juvenile should have no bearing on what other people think and you sir are wrong to judge others for enjoying the second best holiday of the year. It's my birthday three days later that is the best one.

At any rate, your poll is invalid because their is not a never option. Haven't missed a year yet and I don't plan to.

never stop trick or treating, just get some of your kids... or friends kids... or short people to come along... act like you're like there to babysit them or something and get them all to pony up a share of the loot at the end for you... bang free candy

When you can ask yourself this: should I go trick-or-treating or go party with my friends? And no, the ones where your/your friend's mom makes candied apples and popcorn balls do not count as "party".

The absolute final cut-off age is when you get the response, "What the hell are you doing, you're a grown man for God's sake!"

12. Leave the candy for the kids, though I don't mind if people come by once the kids are all gone.

There is no such a tradition here in Finland, but we have virpominen, during Easter, when kids dress up as witches and go house-to-house trading candy for decorated tree-branches.

I grew up in a small village, and I was asked by the old ladies to go visit them and to that, since I was the only young person in the village, so I ended up going even when I was 20.

I didn't mind, but generally only kids do that.

I am currently in high school, and I was amazed at the amount of people who are still trick-or-treating. I stopped when I was 8, and these people are continuing at ages 14-15. It just seems juvenile to me. I even know a junior (16-17) who is trick-or-treating this weekend. This brings up the question, when should you stop?
Oh my lord... You would pass up an opportunity to get free candy, scare children, and dick around with your friends?

Sweet Jesus! Check this man's pulse!

The cut off point I would say without being wierd is around early adulthood say around 16-20, However if later in life you have kids then it might be necesary for you to go trick or treating with them and I guess it could be a fun event for both kids and parents etc.

I know when I was very young I went trick or treating with my mum, she got dressed up too and it was a good night. I don't think you would get away with it if you didn't have kids though lol.

I'm short enough that if I put a mask on no one would be the wiser about my age. Granted I stopped going out years ago, but honestly I think if you put the effort into making a good costume it can be a blast regardless of how old you are.

Might be odd for the people handing out candy, but honestly I always felt sorry when it was a teen at the door. I mean, who doesn't love free candy?! :p
