I quite enjoyed first but I liked second the most because there was more to do, also whatever Gen Palkia is from needs to rollover and die for the that unbeatable monstrosity... I have him in HG and holy captain crunch batman is he OP
The problem is that Palkia and Dialga are great, against non-ubers. Against other ubers, really only Arceus is a good 4th gen uber.

The third generation was the best, in my opinion. Abilities, EVs, Natures, and usable Dark moves made for a much more balanced meta.

Not to mention the only hazard was Spikes, and that was easy to get around. Moltres wasn't a horrible pokemon because of it's SR weakness, and Focus Sash was somewhat useful. Also, Drizzle/Drough were only in ubers.
Well thats the thing though, my Palkia drops other ubers in one hit all the time, must've trained it right

OT: How could I forget Sapphire! That is tied for second place for me

I like the first gen the best for just the Pokemon you find around the world, but I far prefer the starters of the second gen. Gotta love Cyndaquil.

hmmm tough one, i LOVE the pokemon of Kanto, johto and hoenn. the newer ones are scraping the barrel on creativity (seriously a garbage bag pokemon >.>) so for the games i probably played more red/blue since back then you could still play it at school and not have it taken away but as for the TV show im going to say the advanced generation (series 6-9) after that the show went downhill, then off a cliff for season 14 (seriously the first 2 episodes will rape your childhood)

I think Gen III is my favourite, I was 9 when it came out so maybe it's just nostalgic bias. :p

My favourite gen in terms of gameplay is III, but I do prefer the origial 251.
I only watched the show from like the first episode to the johto journeys or whatever. I do enjoy how shiny gen IV is, but it's not my favourite by any means... and I'll probably never play gen V (too fake to me, hell my friends and I could make a better custom :D)

3rd gen. Johto had the most gameplay, but R/S/E had the best story, and my kyogre/blaziken combo is still pretty much unbeatable.

It has more strategies and rotation battles which makes it awesome.
It had like three in game. That is not what you do with highly advertised gameplay mechanics.

Almost all of my favourites are second generation so I'll go with that. Same character artists as the original 151 but with more pokemon design experience=the best generation of pokemon imo.

First. Just seemed like they actually cared about the designs back then. Everything after the second generation feels like they looked around the office and slapped eyes to whatever they first lay eyes on.

I'm no expert after the second generation though. I lost intrest around then, so what I've seen is just the occational linked picture on the internet.

First Generation. It was special, new and amazing. After that, it just went... goofy. I just stopped caring after the old Silver and Gold.

The following is all from an objective standpoint, my personal favourite is gen 2.

Gen 5, it's basically the same as every other gen except with better graphics, music, team choices, plot and gameplay options. Get someone who's never played a pokemon game before to play all 5 gens, I'm willing to bet that he likes gen 5 the best.

Unless you're talking about which gen conjures up the most mindless nostalgia. Then gen 1, totes.

The first 151 were shit that wouldn't even make it past the concept stage if they were submitted nowadays.
This. Seriously, people give the first gen too much credit; its all from nostalgia, and nostalgia alone.

Exactly.

Voltorb/electrode: hurr it's a pokeball
Oddish: monochrome shape with a face
Diglet: see above
Ditto: see above
Gastly: see above
Shelder/Cloyster: see above plus the same purple shell
Nidoran + evos: same recoloured pokemon
Geodude + evos: a rock with a face
Magikarp: it's a fish...
Weezing, Dugtrio, Megneton, Dodrio: pretty much the same deal
Onix: rocks with a face
etc etc etc.

Now, I've got nothing against gen 1 but seeing as the OP asked which gen is the best, not which gen was the best I just feel that I should point out how gen 1 can't compare to the later gens nowadays.

Plus, I hate nostalgia.

My would have to go with Gen 4 (Luxray and Garchomp FTW).
While I don't have other gens version but in my opinion I felt that Gen 1 had too many water types, Gen 2 felt more like an expansion to Gen 1 and Gen 3 is least favourite (had fewer amount of decent looking Pokemons). Finally Gen 5 felt more like an experiment (it had higher level to evolve Pokemons and other unquie stuffs).

5th gen (specifically Pokemon Black). But I love all the game like Yellow, Crystal, Emerald and Platinum.

Gen 3. Probably because I got it before it was released in Europe, and it was so kewl.

No, seriously. Tightest gameplay, brand new world, many important features refined, many unnecessary ones removed (haircuts for pokemon to make them like you more, come on), vastly improved graphics and sound (the 2nd gen sounds still like a donkey getting raped with a rusty chainsaw to me) and something even resembling a story other than "Team Rocket fucking shit up".

The main problem I have with the 3rd gen it's that it doesn't leave you with much to do after the pokemon league, but I rarely do that kinda stuff anyway. Also, they're insultingly easy games when you know which pokemon to use.

I disagree. Sure, the 1st gen is arse compared to the modern ones today, but it had some things better than the following generations. For one, legendaries weren't something that got shoved your way, you actually had to find them yourself. For two, it had a lot more challenge than the current ones. Just look at the first fight. The very first thing you practically do is to have to defeat Gary's pokemon, which is equal to you in level, and the second time you come across him he can really screw your day. For three, they felt, in some weird way, darker than the newer ones. There was open reference to death and Giovanni just escapes after you defeat him and is never seen again.

Dunno, havne't played the 1st gen in years, i'm jsut lookign thru nostaglia golgges lol

I disagree. The Blue battle in the beginning is no different from any of the other rival battles.

And yeah, the legendaries were out of the way. But what made them legendary? They didn't have the Godlike powers of Dialga or Palkia, nor would they rend the world in a cataclysm like Groudon or Kyogre. They were so out of the way that they had nothing going for them.

There was one open reference to death, and thats probably very light considering the bioterrorism of Magma or Aqua, or Cyrus' childhood abuse leading him to attempt ascension into godhood.

And yeah, Giovanni escapes. Guess what? He shows up one more time in HG/SS, a broken wreck of a man on the run from the law.

Your nostalgia goggles are blinding you.

It is a tie between the 2nd and 4th Generations.

Why?

1. (Number 1 favorite pokemon, from 4th generation and from all time favorite)

2. (Number 1 favorite pokemon, from 2nd generation

Take that Haters! I've been around since it hit US shores and I still think newer gens are miles better than older ones!
