Poll: What is the best Star Trek game ever made?

Star Trek: Online is actually still being updated/played and it's Free-to-play. Why isn't it on the list?
I also find that, for me, it's one of the best Star Trek games out there. It fits into the MMO style genre pretty well and there's a lot of nice customization to be had as well.

Star Trek Online I'd say.

I was thinking a while back though about how I hadn't really come across a Star Trek game that I liked and I think a large part of it is because, for me, the main attraction of Star Trek is the whole crew interaction. Its them dealing with situations on a personal level as well as operating as a crew and stuff, and I think thats a hard thing to capture in a game.

The only solution I could think of would be a kind of Sims variant which cuts to RTS style space ship combat or person level combat.

Why aren't STO and Tactical Assault on that list? STO was a buggy piece of shit at launch that's changed hands at least eight times, but now that Activision isn't rushing them anymore, it's actually a pretty decent MMO.

Tactical Assault on the other hand was a DS game that centered you around a man named Captain Reynolds and puts you into the 22nd Century, around the time that the Khitomer Treaty was in final negotiations. The combat system was a pretty good proof of concept, and the story was engaging and fun.

Why aren't STO and Tactical Assault on that list? STO was a buggy piece of shit at launch that's changed hands at least eight times, but now that Activision isn't rushing them anymore, it's actually a pretty decent MMO.

Tactical Assault on the other hand was a DS game that centered you around a man named Captain Reynolds and puts you into the 22nd Century, around the time that the Khitomer Treaty was in final negotiations. The combat system was a pretty good proof of concept, and the story was engaging and fun.

I was looking more at single player games. And I don't have a DS - I don't really see it as any different from a mobile phone gaming device, and I'm not going to include all those casual Star Trek games you can play on your phone.

Besides, each game on the list has got at least two votes so I'd have to remove other peoples' preferences to put in yours.

No it's not. Have you played Judgment Rites? That game captures it perfectly, as well as the whole spirit of the Star Trek universe.

25th anniversary, to me, closely followed by Starfleet Academy. Those were great in immersion and gameplay, the newer games don't even come close (though some, like Bridge Commander *tried*).

No it's not. Have you played Judgment Rites? That game captures it perfectly, as well as the whole spirit of the Star Trek universe.

Not quite sure you're able to argue why I like the series? Im not stating a public fact, just a personal taste.

I've not come across Judgement Rites before though, quick google search shows it could be worth a play though and its on Abandonia as well. Thanks for the tip!

No love for Klingon Academy, loved that game. Was like bridge commander but you had control over every little bit of the ship. If you wanted to boost power to weapons and were low on energy you could take life support down to say 25% for the extra power, sure some of your crew may die. But it was gamble you could take to win a fight. You could also launch marines onto enemy ships. Also loved the fact everything in the map was real, I once used a star to destroy a ship, by pumping all power to shields and skimming its edges, as the pursuing ship was taken apart by the stars heat. Loved hiding in gas planets and dust rings, ready to ambush the enemy.

I'd have to say either Bridge Commander, or Birth of the Federation (which nobody seems to have mentioned yet). The great mods for BC pushes it over the edge though so I'll go with that one.

Starfleet vs the Cylons YAY!

Though BotF comes with so many good memories from when I was younger. My brilliant tactical victories, devastating defeats, and broken treaties (seriously Federation why did you declare war on me? I thought we were buddies!).

wish i could get bc to run at all on windows 7 64 bit. really wish i could get it running with mods. tried just about every workaround i could find to get it to run, and played it in xp with a number of mods installed and it ran fine, but win 7 it just crashes constantly or the scripts do not function properly in missions at all or both.

Starfleet academy was great back in the day, another one that really does not like windows 7.

still for the cd roms for both games including the 10 disks or w/e it is for SA.

That thing was great for the first time, ok-ish the second time but by the third time you were aware of when key events were happening. TBH I wouldn't mind seeing another TGN board game like that but maybe with randomised sequences and multiple story lines, just to keep it fresh. The klingon acting was so cheesy though, it was ace.

My vote goes to Klingon Academy, good FMV story, which is made to be a prequel of sorts to Undiscovered Country. The combat with all the different classes of ships was fun especially when playing hide and seek in the orbit of gas giants.

At 6 or 7 CDs the game probably wouldn't look out of place in my DVD collection.

Hang on a sec... you're telling me that a system designed specifically for gaming is no different than something designed for pretentious corporate CEOs (and people with too much money to spend) to be able to call each other? You need to learn how to differentiate between a gaming platform and something that happens to play games as well as do other functions.

And Tactical Assault did relatively well on DS despite having no advertising. It had a well-developed storyline, and I can't be the only person on the Escapist whose hear of it.

As much as I liked starfleet command I gotta go with bridge commander. It was something different that people always dreamed about playing out. Its still a great game even to this day if you can get past the graphics. I just wish there was more to do like deal with boarding parties

The only games I know of with a similar idea are Artemis and Star trek online but both have their individual problems
