I have to agree with you there. RTS is definately not Niche. as for why they're not listed in the top ten lists... I'm not quite sure, but it seems gaming systems had a larger representation than PCs?Vek said:

Er..yes...those are all RTS games. That doesn't really prove that it isn't a 'niche' genre though. The definition of niche is a product that finds a profitable market share based on a limited consumer base.Vek said:

Well according to the Guinness world records 2009 gamers edition the best console game of all time was mario kart. Highly against my opinion which is any of the sonic games from 1-3 but none of them were up there so screw my opinion. Just kidding but an "other" option would have be nice.

My vote goes to Master Of Orion II however, a game I play to this day and I don't plan on stopping. THE empire management game, with simplistic but extremely functional and surprisingly able tactical combat. All the races are different and you can create your own, in addition to a restrictive tech-tree (do I want better ship armor, instant and free auto-repair between battles OR better armor for my ground army? Choose one, the rest you might get by stealing or trading if you are lucky) ensuring that no two replays are the same.

I don't really like any of the choices there. A lot of them are also a little bit before my time so I haven't even played them. Do a poll on best games of the 00's and you might get some better results.
FLAME WAR COMMENCE! why make a poll on the best game of all time? That is just a terrible idea. You obviously can't get everyones choice for best game.
Honestly, I don't really consider any of those "Best Game Ever" contenders. They're all quite good, but I'd rather something like Gunstar Super Heroes or Soul Calibur. StarCraft should also be listed somewhere.
If I had to choose something from that list, it would be Super Metroid, despite my greater liking for Metroid Fusion in terms of storytelling, and Metroid: Zero Mission in terms of gameplay. Super Metroid was amazing, but the controls need to be more refined.
