Poll: What is the best video game of all time? (read the post)

OoT was so obviously gonna be in this poll... in MY OPPINION it's the most overrated game of all time, that is just my oppinion... I didnt grow up with the game but I did complete it and I do like it but I dont understand it's "epicness" so to speak

out of those: Super Metroid. It's honestly the only one I can still play since there has been a better version and/or something to replace the others since they were released. Sure there was Metroid Prime which I fucking love... but thats a different game entirely. And Fusion and Zero mission are fun but lose something when not played on an SNES controller.

But my vote for best game ever... StarCraft.
Because a game is truly great when I have never gone more than a month without playing that game at least once with a friend or solo since it came out in 1998. It never seems to get old...

and as for game that Nostalgia has the biggest impact on my view of it.. Donkey Kong Country 2. Because it was the first game I owned when I finally got my own SNES and I played that game all the time- til I got more games...

Why are all but two old as shit and the other two old? They may be the classics, but that doesn't make them better than modern games.

Mostly because, I think, most modern games have a lot of their roots in the titles listed above. There isn't a modern RPG around that hasn't borrowed original concepts from FF7, a puzzle game from Tetris, a shooter from GoldenEye or DOOM, etc.

So when you make a list like this, you tend to vote for the original material over the copies.

Sorry, but your logic is flawed, as many of these games borrowed/expanded on concepts from even older games (in addition to coming up with many original ideas, of course),and many modern games did not borrow concepts from this list. What did Morrowind take from FF7? What did Portal take from Tetris?

Honestly, "best ever" is just an opinion and everybody thinks different so you can never narrow it down to just a few games. Besides, we all know Superman 64 was the best game ever.

I think if you're going to go for older games it has to be something like Pacman.
People tend to get obsessed with older games as the genuinely greatest...Why? How the hell is "Oblivion" inferior to (the admittedly great) "Ocarina Of Time"? To me, "Psychonauts" is a greater game than "Mario 64".

You happarently forgot the adventure genre, vote goes to Monkey Island, the original not the remake, even though I still enjoyed that one. Yes Im old... Day of the tentacle gets an honorable mention. To this day NO game has made me laught as hard as Monkey Island did.

personally i am torn between halo 3 (dont judge me, i have defended it enough times now), Deus Ex, and the search function
