I'd say all of them except maybe the warning. First off just something short like a 24 or 48 hour ban, and take away their rank/achievements/unlocks/level/whatever else. If they do it again, go a week or a month, then to permanent.

If "hacking" by using third-party mods to cheat: Ban, no exceptions

If exploiting a glitch to gain an advantage: Fix your damn game

Or hell, just use the deidcated server model. Then if you wanna aimbot, go to a server without cheat protections. If you wanna exploit, go to a server that doesn't ban for it. If you wanna play with special rules, go to a server that has them modded in.

if your caught using a 3rd party program etc to cheat then just perma ban them. but if its just people reporting you as a cheater cause you owned them then maybe a 24 hour ban if enough different people report you. like i mean 10-20 people report you. not 2-3 people.

there is just to many way to cheat that you would need different punishments. like using a glitch should be a smaller ban compared to using 3rd party software to cheat.
Similar to this. Actually hacking the program and giving yourself a huge advantage in the game should be perma ban or at least a long ban. And depending on the glitch sometimes they shouldn't even ban people. A lot of the time glitches are the problem of the company to fix, don't release broken games and expect people to not try to optimize their strategies while still within the limits of the game.

At the very least you need to publicly acknowledge the glitch and announce it is now against the rules long before you think about banning anyone.

Alternatively, have two different set-ups:

Protected and non-protected.

If you are caught cheating on a protected server, you can no longer play on those protected servers and your stats get reset to 0.
And locked for half a year.
The non-protected servers are free game, but you aren't eligible for any of the official rewards or achievements you might get on protected servers.

I have better punishment for glitch exploiters, Fix the Glitch.
yeah the glitch should be fixed but in the mean time the glitchers should still be punished.

Yeah, but then the cheater suddenly becomes a field medic... should do something that can't be circumvented
I like continuity. It's very helpful in many situations.

like- change all his graphics to 8-bit, reverse all his controls,
Why would a hacker do that? That's not advantageous, that's just stupid.

or- make their controls totally stupid: like the forward key opens the inventory, the jump key drops his weapon, the escape key for fire; every 5 minutes the controls get scrambled again.
Last I checked, it was near impossible to screw with a game so bad that you could change another player's controls through hacking.

Also- their menu interface will be all replaced by a cheat-menu/list, some of which are normal menu buttons disguised as cheats, some of which work- but are totally useless anyway because of the controls being scrambled.
See above, only replace "controls" with "pause menu" and multiply it by 10.

You wanna break other peoples gaming experience? you should have your own game broken.
I never intended it so that the other players would have have their games ruined. I was trying to make the hacker looked down by the community, because most of the time the only reasons hackers hack is because they want to look cooler their peers by beating them at a game. Eliminate that, and you have competitive assholes who aren't good (and never will be) at the sport they're trying to compete in.

Although it would never happen, Id love to see all of those hackers and modders get their douche asses banned. Microsoft should give Activision the green light to give a few people the power to instaban suspected cheaters. I have a feeling things would clear up real fast.

Ban the bastards. They ruin it for other people. They don't deserve a second chance, they decided to cheat, and cheaters get what cheaters deserve

First Offence: Short suspension with the penalties for further offenses clearly outlined and a two month long probationary label of cheater.
Second Offence: Long suspension and indelibly labeled as a cheater through whatever accounts are available.
Third Offence: PermaBan on every game you can link that user to.

Why no first offense permaban? Because people are stupid, but most are educable.

All of the above, in rising order. First a warning, then a short ban, then a longer one, then a big middle finger to the player. Literally. They'll be banned with a picture of a middle finger.

But did you consider that when a cheater cheats, particularly in an online game with and against other peers - he is doing it at the expense of others? I think it would only be fair if they have their games ruined(or broken), when they saw fit to ruin it for others.

I was thinking of an innovative way to thwart them- not by hacking, I never mentioned anything about that (I don't know where you got that from); but my idea was to have the programming and design of the game to detect cheating, and if it does, it would completely turn the game on its head making it virtually unplayable, as the cheater has done unto others who are playing fairly. The threat of this would probably deter most cheaters to just suck it up and play the game fairly like everyone else, unless they really want to dedicate themselves to rewriting the programming in the game so that they can cheat without being caught - but, I think with functions of game recording and such, they will still get caught either way.

No need to stomp all over my post, especially if you opt to make assumptions about what I said. You're possibly taking my post a little too seriously (I was posting in light of more amusing ideas - like yours, though I never said your ideas were stupid, I did respond your idea gives the cheater a way to benefit from the consequence). I personally would find it entertaining to see all these things happen to a cheater, and not just as a punishment.

Plus- the cheat-menu thing I posed was to mock the cheater; impractical or not, I think it would piss them off royally if their whole game had been turned into a joke cheat program. Especially if they were so serious about their scores and achievements that they would have to cheat to do it.

First offense: Light punishment. Let them know that you're watching them, and make it explicitly clear that there will be no mercy next time.
Second offense: Ban.

Some people don't understand the levity of their actions, or whether or not they'll be caught. They should know pretty well by the first offense.

You can't be so eager to render a game they paid for unusable.

I have an even better idea. Here's how it goes down;

#3. Force the cheater to wear a pink bow. (Cookie if you get the reference.)
I'm going to guess Ninja Gaiden Black. After dying so many times, you are given the option to abandon the Ninja way and you are forced to wear pink ribbons. So, do I get a cookie?

As much as I would love straight killing these people, that's a bit harsh. Other people deserve to die instead of cheaters.
Banned forever from online gaming, across every platform and console, would be nice, although perhaps a bit impossible.

First offense: 7 day suspension.
Second offense: Permanent Ban.

That sounds perfectly fair. I think second chances are good, but not without a punishment (like the 7 day suspension).
