FPS, I like shooting people.

Kind of reflects poorly on myself as an individual, but oh well.

FPS sometimes, if they're either really fun/well made or if they bring something new to the table. I've found quite a few RPG's with guns that I love as well.

Whoa, this poll is missing my two favorite gaming genre: platforming and action.
True, platforming is almost dead but still...
Those would be my choices too, if they were included...

Where's Action/Adventure?
This. :[ It should definitely be on there instead of 'Puzzle'. That's like saying your favourite game is Tetris. ;p

I love horror games and films. Its all about the rush of hiding from an enemy or searching a pitch black room with nothing but a torch for light.

Hows about all the above barring RTS's. Never played one so I can't say if I like them or got a grudge against em.

JRPGs top my list followed by
WRPGs
F/TPSs
Stealth/Stealth-heavy games
Puzzles
Simulators

However, some of the best and most enjoyable games cannot simply be funneled into certain genre catagories, such as Fallout 3 (WRPG/FPS), Mass Effect (WRPG/TPS), and others. Indeed, this may be a point where "genre" needs to focus not on game format (such as FPS or RPG), but on game content (Such as Action, Horror, or Liner/Branching Narrative).

Also, stealth games are missing from the poll.

I think the problem with this poll is that games have now become too broad in scope to be properly categorized. Do you call Mass Effect a TPS or an RPG? How about Borderlands? RPG? FPS? RPG's have grown to the point where anything that has certain tracking and stat systems can be called an RPG, like Marvel Ultimate Alliance. We have JRPG, ARPG, etc....

Gone are the days when you could neatly wedge most games into a few distinct categories.

1 i dont think many have heard of: Turn-based StraPG. also known as the Heroes of Might and Magic genre. well, because the HOMM games are the best games ever.

besides that, FPS. its always fun with guns.

I'm 25. My favorite is definitely Western RPGs, but I'll play JRPGs or just about anything else with RPG elements. The catalog of RPGs isn't really all that big unless you dig around for older stuff, so I tend to play other stuff while I'm waiting for new releases.

By the way, would MMO actually count as a genre? It seems more like, I dunno, a feature or something. Like you could have a MMORPG or an MMO shooter, I wouldn't consider them in the same genre.
