He is wrong about some of that. Twin studies show that identical twins raised is separate environments have very similar IQ's, so you cannot attribute everything to environment. Factors like nutrition, and learning how to learn do have a somewhat large impact.traceur_ said:So you got a low score eh?D_987 said:FreeGeckosForAll said:As I am interested in psychometrics and human psychology in general, to test one of my ideas, I decided to use this forum as my template.
An IQ test merely shows how good people are at IQ tests and does not in any way equate to intelligence...
Further, there is no way you can claim that any IQ test is not effected by the social class of the person in question - after all, it is a near-fact that social class dramatically effects a pupils early education and therefore their success at IQ tests. Bearing in mind that IQ tests were originally designed to test the mentality of patients it makes no sense to bother completing them, let alone advertise them - they are merely another forum of e-peen.
So explain (I'm not giving your site traffic until I get a legitimate answer) what idea are you possibly planning to test with an IQ test?
I kid, I kid.
Nutrition and learning how to learn are environmental factors. And there have also been studies that have shown a significant difference between the two. All we can surmise by the IQ thing is that we have no means to accurately measure something intangible like intelligence.manaman said:He is wrong about some of that. Yet there is a reason IQ tests never caught on in schools. I was given an IQ test in school, but that was a Catholic private school. I do not care to post the results. I will give you that I always figured I was intelligent, but seeing the results of that test was a bit of a shock even to me. A large part of the reasons they will never institutionalize test results. They are never what you expect.
I answered about eight questions until I realized it was all pattern recognition. I guessed the remainder of the test and scored a 103
This test is inaccurate and only measures one of the baselines used in actual IQ tests.
Also the test uses standard deviation scoring of 15. Most use 16.
Exactly. The tests have become more standardized but it is still to the point that if you accurately want to measure scores against each other you have to have taken the same test with the same scoring. I mention those environmental factors because those are the only ones that seem to have a significant impact. However because of twin studies people have learned that even the greatest of influences is not that great.LaughingTarget said:snip
