My sentiment exactly, even though we're technically from the United Kingdom I consider myself Welsh first and foremost.
I agree United Kingdom is too broad. It's also short-sighted to assume that culturally and environmentally all countries in Britain are 'similar'. And Parliament's power over Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland is very little. Those three countries are technically 80% independent from England. Also when you think United Kingdom, you think England. Some English people think that English and British are interchangeable.

Scotland.
And Mel Gibson does not count!!!
Although Braveheart did educate people around the world on why the Scots don't like being called "English" or even "British"

I'm from Croatia, I live in Pula [http://media-2.web.britannica.com/eb-media/37/118037-004-2BFCBC6E.jpg], and study in Zadar [http://croatia.hr/Images/t900x600-210/croatia_dalmacija_zadar_0001.jpg]. It's nice. At least something to look forward to when corruption and politicians' horrible decisions rip you off.

South Africa - land of the corrupt politicians
Not so fast in hogging that title! We in the Czech Rep are quite fond of our knack for corruption and fund funneling as well! And stand mere 0.3 points higher on international corruption ranking than you guys. Take that EU!
...
More often than not I'm quite embarrassed to be Czech...
In any case, corrupt Irish politicians and Czech politicians should have a convention to exchange ideas on how to rip us all off even more efficiently! :p
Oh man, you both should ask our politicians for tips on corruption. Or maybe we should just take all of them out of our countries and lock them up somewhere, like in Antarctica. I bet they would try to sell their shit to penguins.

Also, I wonder if there's a special reason to include Belgium. I mean, Belgium is great, I visited it and I loved it there, but it being a small country it doesn't seem very likely that it needs a special option. I mean, there's certainly more people on the Escapist from Germany or France or, you know, China, Russia, India, than from Belgium. So far, there are only three votes; same number as for my country for example. Nothing against Belgium though; if anything, you deserve this spot for your chocolate and waffles. That would be my reasoning at least, I wonder what's the OP's reasoning. Oh dear, I made myself sad for the lack of chocolate now :(

Yay, first to vote Netherlands, and we're even on the list for a change (which is somewhat strange since there are only 10-20 Dutch people on this board...)
Quite a few more, in my experience.
Really? Besides myself I know of 5 or 6 by (screen)name, 2 of whom I haven't seen around in ages.
It generally shows in the responses to most drugs threads, and whenever knowledge of the dutch language would be useful.

It's not exactly like I'm the only one who doesn't propagate his nationality unless it is directly related to the topic.

From what I've noticed around the site the last few years, you've got the nationalities that seem to crop up the most.

I'm from Ireland though, and there is a loada others from Ireland on the site too, certainly a lot more than from Belgium, that was an odd choice for the poll IMO.

Are any of the other nationalities really all that different though?

I mean all of them are completely imaginary. I don't think there's a single country on Earth that is culturally and environmentally homogeneous. Nor is there any natural observable property that can be tied to nationality.

Even a Welsh nationality is probably too broad to accurately describe someone's complete cultural background. There's bound to be any number of significant differences between a Welsh person having lived his whole life in Cardiff and one with a more rural background.

Not saying in any way or form that people can't call themselves Welsh. If they feel they're Welsh then that's their nationality as far as I'm concerned. But being too broad is kind of inherent to nationalities, there isn't a single one that isn't.

Belgium gets a poll option, but the largest country in the world doesn't? It's almost as if you added a poll to attract attention or something...

In my defense.

The named countries were The UK, Canada, New Zealand, The US, and Australia at the time of my post. Poll's looking a little taller now.
