Its not bad. I pay for 12 months of gold, doesn't cost much and I use XBL quite a bit.

It could be a lot worse, and it could be a little better.

It seems to be OK, as long as I never plug in my mike and turn the volume down so I can't hear those god damn 12-year-old kids then again I've been avoiding games like MW2 and Halo and playing L4D2 lately which seems relatively 12-year-old-free the only thing I hate about it is getting kicked for no reason sometimes.

In microsoft's defense, they pay for their own servers and servers cost money. Most PC games run on dedicated servers. Clearly a shitton of people feel that the $60/year is worth the benefits of XBL, so it kind of speaks for itself in terms of whether or not it's worth the money.

There is nothing wrong with it, other than the people. But I doubt PC and PSN can brag about their commuinitys.
We can brag that we don't pay for multiplayer, and we get real servers rather than peer to peer connections.
Unrelated to what I just said.
Regardless:
-I can aford to pay for it, so it dosnt bother me.
-Never had any huge scale connection problems while online.

My guess is you just get a thill out of arguing with people about the PS3. You fail to understand that I dont give a fuck, go argue with someone who does. Im happy with my Xbox, your happy with your PS3. Grow up and fuck off. Dont try to teach people "the Error of their ways" because they didnt buy a PS3.

Some of the services are nice, but honestly paying for multiplayer is bullshit. I know Microsoft runs their own servers, but honestly the multiplayer is one of the things their console is sold on.

It's amusing how people assume I have a PS3 because I criticise MS and the 360 where it's deserved. I have a 360, I don't have a PS3, I don't pay for Gold because it's crap. In fact it's so much crap that I don't even bother creating a new account every month for the free 1 month trial - tha really illustrates how bad it is.

You don't know, because Microsoft actually doesn't. They have no servers, everything is peer to peer.

It really is going to depend upon how much you use it and take advantage of all of the features. I never did when I paid for Live because it was just to play online with friends.

Sadly, now I find XBL to be a waste. The "New Xbox Live Experience" or whatever it was chimed as, what with the Miis Avatars and dashboard destruction really hurt my interest for Live, but what absolutely killed XBL was just life. I'm a very active person who does not have much time to play video games anymore. I love to rest and play a good game when I can, but it's never for long and not something that I take priority to do, either. So where does that leave people like me with Xbox Live? A useless Silver. Or a frivolous Gold if basically wasting $50 a year sounds alright. Yet ironically, all of the features that I didn't use were available for free.

The only feature that I would like is to be able utilize on Live is what amounts to unlocking the online for my 360 games so I could play a multiplayer match or two every now and again. The only game that had servers if I recall was Halo 3, while the rest of the games were laggy between squeaks of cursing children and various slurs of utter twits. At least I have this option with my PS3 now, but it really sucks the fun out of my 360 because it limits what I would even consider purchasing for it. Games like Reach have became a rent if I can't play online, so now the system is just collecting dust.

I find that the Live service is just not my style, being a restrictive tyrant that forced me to play my xbox in its "community." Why the hell do I have to make a silly Avatar just to play Bioshock? Why do I have to be anything in this "community" when all I want is to play a few games but cannot dedicate myself to relying on playing with friends all of the time? When I did play online, it was always with friends because otherwise I found the community to be deplorable. In other words, the only way for me to have fun is to count on someone I knew to be online at the same time I wanted to play a game.

First off, last time we had an argument like this Migo, I remeber you defending the PS3 with your life (slight exageration) why would you defend a console inwhich you have not invested ANY money into. To me thats just blind stupidity and unfounded devotion.

Also, when you say something like that, its hard to tell which platform your talking about. I decided to guess PS3 since its closer to the Xbox and since neither console stand a chance aginst PC gaming, PC gamers tend not to care about the "console wars" and all that petty bull shit and dont get involved.

Besides, this thread is about opinion. What right do you have to try and change peoples opinion about a console. State your opinion, by all means, just dont post a reply to every comment that says anything remotly possitive about the 360.

You don't actually have to pay for updates. And besides, the cost of an Xbox plus a years Gold membership is still cheaper than a PS3 or a decent spec PC.
Not if you need the wireless adapter and thats only if you buy the shitty arcade version with no harddrive...

I love XBL. Although you only managed to get one thing right. You pay for MP not updates or "other game features" (unless demos are included in that). DLC is available to all members. When you pay for XBL you pay for MP, discounts, demos, party chat and contests. As well as Facebook and probably a few of those other non gaming features that I don't use.

PSN is the one that charges for auto updates and free games and first access to betas and party chat and all that useless crap....

Personally, I HATE XBL. It's total bullshit that you have to pay for Multiplayer, Updates, and Other game features which are all available for FREE on PC. It's just another way of Microsoft to stick their hands into our pockets, as if they didn't have enough money already.
I agree.
Playstation Plus is starting to look a lot more friendly in my eyes (although I don't agree with that whole "cancel the service, lose your stuff crap").
All minor things aside, you only really pay for online play. That should have been free from the beginning.

I still don't get how the PSN 'paying for updates' thing works though. How much is that costing you?"

All updates are free, however you have the option to pay to have updates for your games downloaded automatically while it is off instead of doing the updates one by one for each game and sitting through the download and install. It's really just a little time saving feature.

Recap online play - free
updates - free
updates that require no interaction - Pay

You were reading far too much into that. The PS3 doesn't need any defending, its merits are quite clear. The same can't be said for the 360, or Xbox Live. You seem to be confusing pointing out where one system is stronger than the other with "defending with my life", which would suggest you're projecting your own blind devotion for the 360 onto me, except with the PS3.

Also, when you say something like that, its hard to tell which platform your talking about. Obviously, I own a PC and I play games on it, and as a PC gamer I can brag that.

Besides, this thread is about opinion. What right do you have to try and change peoples opinion about a console. State your opinion, by all means, just dont post a reply to every comment that says anything remotly possitive about the 360.
That's being silly, this is a discussion board with a quote function, obviously I'm going to do that, although it seems you're one of the people who prefers the threads where someone starts asking a question and everyone answers it and no discussion of any kind happens.

While I agree that sucks, and makes the PS+ look only worthwhile for people who spend a lot of money already, at least if you reactivate the service you get it back.

yeah I mean it's not like online servers cost money, or DLC takes labor hours to create.
They have no online servers, and you pay for the DLC.

I use it but I don't really care for it; I have to pay for things that are free on PC and I have to pay for the service in general and it occasionally doesn't work which pisses me off but it is fun to be in a party with friends and I enjoy some of the XBLA games so I guess it's OK but I feel like they're squeezing money out of me.

Actually it depends on the game (just like for the ps3 and pc) weather it will have a dedicated server or not. Bioshock 2 for example no mater what platform its on is p2p while l4d has dedicated servers. (If this is not what your refering to then ignore this part of the post).

To the OP: what some people fail to relieze is that XBL membership comes in two forms. Silver and Gold. With silver its free, you get updates for your games, access to demos and DLC and able to chat with friends(one on one). With gold you get mutiplayer, party chat, early access with demos and DLC, and those extra features like facebook and netflix. Its not for everyone and I can understand why some people would be peterb paying for what they can get for free on other systems but I honestly have no problem with it. (Only with people assuming we have to pay for updates)
