I'm pretty sure its safe to say that we all listen to music at some time, but we all do it differently.
I prefer to listen with over-ear headphones, usually my awesome turtle beaches, or my $20 Sony headphones.
My uncle prefers speakers; either his crappy $15 speakers for his computer, or his $3,000 sound surround by his TV.
My friends prefer in-ear buds because they play music, and that is the best for their set up.

So my fellow Escapists, what is your preferred music listening apparatus?
Please say why you prefer your selection over the others as well!
Also, I've included some pictures of what I think each one typically looks like, in case you look at the poll and think "wtf?":

Speakers. If I can't do it, I'll go for over ear every time, but I'd still take the speakers, given the chance.

I like the Over-ear headphones the best, I find that they work best for blocking out backround noises. I bloody hate ear buds though, especially the in ear ones, I find them horribly uncomfortable.

Preference - my surround sound speakers (front left and right cost £120 alone - bi-wire cables to them are about £20 and they're not that far apart due to room limitations).

Generally though my cheapo in-ear Creative buds at work or the tiny speakers in my tiny car.

The sound stage is just so much better with real speakers (as in speakers with more than one cone trying to do all the work) and therefore much more enjoyable, when you can listen to the same song you heard earlier at work but you can hear so many more levels.

imho

I will always play through speakers if possible. I play through over-ear headphones only if I would be bothering people otherwise.

I prefer over ear headphones or speakers.

I can't even use ear buds since they don't fit into my ears.

I can't stand in-ears because they never fit properly, and my ear always says "DO NOT WANT!" and pushes them out.
Ear buds surprisingly are ok for me. I think its because when I got my iPod when I was 16 and I had no other speakers, I just dealt with the pain of getting used to ear buds, so my ears are used to them now.
I definitely prefer over-ears though. Being able to play for hours on end without pain from wearing them, is awesome. The sound quality of over-ears is vastly superior to most ear buds as well.

In-ear

Speakers are a little too impersonal for me, over ear too big and ear buds (the iPod ones) don't block sound in and out well.

If I'm using headphones, they have to be over-ear.

Honestly though, most of my music-listening occurs in the car driving to and from work.

Speakers for sure, i love to share. If i want loud headphones over-ear is the only way to go, if i want portable in-ear buds.

Ah, yes. I like speakers if I'm in my room and listening to music on my own, or need mobility like if I'm cleaning or something, but I have a roommate so I usually have to resort to headphones instead. And I don't have the space, the money, or the patience for a gigantic pair of over-ears that could match how much sound the in-ears block. Plus I feel with headphones I can hear more subtleties in the music than with speakers (at a reasonable volume, of course).

I love my Skullcandy Hesh headphones. I'm waiting to upgrade to a set of Beats headphones or an equally, phenomenally sounding headphones.

Any suggestions?

Anything made by Bose is made of win, but usually really expensive. They ARE top of the line headphones.
I'd suggest turtle beaches if you game at all, since you can get an adaptor for <$5 so it works for computer/mp3/iPod as well as xbox/PS3

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look in to those.

When alone my laptop speakers, but if anywhere public, I use ear buds:
1. I'm to cheap to get proper over-ear headphones
2. i have just one in one ear, because I'm kinda paranoid about anyone sneaking up behind me

Over-ear headphones. I'm no big fan of heavy bass, but when it's there I want to know it and for that there is no substitute. Earbuds are, in my opinion, the last resort. They're pretty uncomfortable and I always get one that is much looser than the other and will eventually need to be rammed back in.
