And lets not talk about the time I was playing SS2 and my cat rubbed against my leg right as I turned around and some hybrids were standing RIGHT behind me to eat my face, and I proceeded to shriek and flip out of my chair onto the ground.
Haha, nice. Horror games needs more real time scares.

Doesn't play so many scary games but have in the past week spent a lot of hours onboard the Von Braun in System Shock 2 and only freak out when "the voice of the many" speak.

The same goes with Ravenholm and the zombie infested with poisionous headcrabs.

I actually like this scale.

I'm a 6. Though, most horror games are best with a bro though. It's just so much more fun when the two of us are jumping out of our seats.

I hate horror films, though. The most annoying thing about modern horror is no one is in control, but in a video game at least I got a gun to blast someone in the face. That's always a bit of control.

I don't get scared in games...

Except, like I've said several times, Trilby's Notes and Six Days a Sacrifice.

I'm an eight or ten. I play horror games (and watch horror movies) and occassionally get startled. I just shit myself afterwards. I find the aftereffect more terrifying than the experience itself.

I guess I'm gonna go with 10, since I did in fact play STALKER at 3 am and proceed to sleep with the lights off (no nightmares either; in fact, I don't think I've ever had a nightmare).

I generally don't watch horror movies though because I find most of them boring. I know the writing is fucked when I start rooting for the monster just because death is the only way the characters will stop spouting terrible lines.

What would it say about me if I said that I play Condemned and Shadow Over Chernobyl to help me get to sleep?

I can play Metro 2033 in the dark by myself for 2-3 hours, only stopping because I'm tired. I then get a good night's sleep.
What would that be?

I am unranked. A good horror game will leave me feeling paranoid and sleepless for a few days/nights. However, I have very specific horror taste.

I started as a 5 or 6 first time playing RE2 on N64 when I was younger (grade 6 or 7 I think). I had to turn lights on and could only play for a while before getting to scared. By the time I beat Eternal Darkness I was pretty ok with the spookyness. Dead Space I actually found quite fun and beat it, then started a 2nd game in the hardest difficulty (and with only the pistol) but had to return the rented game and never quite finished (chapter 10 I think). Metro 2033 was no problem recently. I just bought the Penumbra series during the Steam sale... so far they're pretty intense. Not very far in yet but it's creepy... still, I rated myself a 10 since I can't remember when a video game last made me really creeped out.

Oh and STALKER isn't that scary... couple creepy parts I guess like the stupid telekenetic dwarves or that one time I walked into a pitch black tunnel full o fthose wierd ass dog baby zombies (although Night Vision really takes away a lot of the scaryness).

Playing Horror games in the dark with surround sound headphones on is all part of the atmosphere imo.

Fatal Frame is still one of the best spooky atmosphere games I've ever played.

Changing S.T.A.L.K.E.R to Condemned. Really, someone needs to make a "Escapists Top 10 Scariest Games" thread.

Switch Stalker with F.E.A.R.. Started the game late at night, got in the helicopter sunrise at dawn, which just made the whole thing creepier.

Then I went and crashed in my room that THANKFULLY has shutters (and none of the lights work in it. I've got great night sight. =D)

Then everyone who chooses 10 is a liar.
I made it all the way to the NPP in the dark, the only things that really caused me paranoia were the 'things', you know the ones, on the way to the brain scorcher and that voice inside the sarcophagus. But I still slept fine afterwards damnit.

Perhaps you are a wuss?

9.5 now.

A few years ago I'd be a 7 but I've gotten used to playing them now. Nothing new to scare me.

Not much really scares me in a game. I can be startled by things but they don't usually leave a lasting effect.

The only thing that had a lasting effect was after playing Fallout 3 I walked out of my room and my dad made a groaning noise that sounded like a Super Mutant. My hands involuntarily hit the hotkey to pull out my assault rifle and look in the direction of the sound. I was startled for a second but then I realized what was going on and that was the end of it.
