Now that I (probably) know my spirit animal, what significance does that have?
Absolutely none. It's just a bit of fun to think about.
well, actually, it gives you a pretty good idea of your personality, so it gives you another perspective on your life. if you are about to get really fired up and mad about something, and you know your animal is the kind to get mad over nothing, you can force yourself to look over the entire problem, and avoid an unneccesary fight. so while, yes, it is fun to think about, it also has some psych. advantages.
Not really. I find the whole idea of associating one's personality to that of a specific animal to be quite stupid. The majority of those who said "wolf" said so because of a perceived loyalty in the wolf and and friendliness to their family, well they just described my cat, what makes them a wolf and not my cat? They just want the cool one, that's why. Saying "I like freedom, so I'm an eagle" is stupid because I've yet to see an animal that likes being locked in a cage. Humans are the only animals who can even comprehend what freedom is so why is their spirit animal not "human" instead? Associating friendliness or fun to just dolphins is stupid because all pets are friendly to their owners, besides, the dolphin one of the only species besides humans to kill for fun, so the dolphin has a unique trait that someone can associate with: killing for fun.
Since the vast majority of animals have little personality, those personalities vary as they would in humans though to a lesser extent, you get relaxed snakes, aggressive snakes, venomous/non-venomous, slow and fast and so on. So unless you encompass that kind of variety in your daily life, you can't just say "snake", and even if you do, there are other animals like that.
The only traits that anyone can associate themselves with, with any kind of accuracy, are physical. I chose my spirit animals as the monkey and the goat because both are quite agile and fast, the monkey is great at climbing things and the goat is sure-footed, neither can fight with any notable skill and will flee from a fight. And even then there are lots of other animals that share those exact traits. So no one can choose just one, or even ten spirit animals because of their traits.
