i carry a good hunting knife for protection (i have 3 daggers in my home but they are illegal to carry but not to own) but i would only use it if my opponent had a knife of gun normally i use my grappling skills to disable my opponent or failing that a few good strikes to the nose work
i'm also pretty good with improvised weapons chair-legs, chains, lone pieces of wood that kind of thing

Well, I seem to find myself awake more during the nighttime hours and I walk often, sometimes through the more "shady" areas of town. So just in case I usually have my knife on me, and sometimes I put my fangs in to startle any potential assailant (but mostly for a laugh).

I like a good lance, polearm, axe, or my bare hands.
Seriously; swords and guns are weaksauce.

My stance on weapons? Battle for big weapons, Berserker for dual wielding and Defensive if I'm using a shield...
*awkward silence...*

OT: Meh It's illegal to carry anything in Britain (not that it stops people) so I don't carry anything but regardless, my view is still that you shouldn't carry weapons.

(sorry if anyone already did that joke)

i live in a quiet town, no need to carry, and by quiet, i mean doors unlocked and not really worried about it, out late and still safe, quiet

but i have a love of the sword, and even own a few

Swords are wildly impractical, require a great amount of training to be useful and are for nothing more than decoration.

Knives make more sense and are quiet, but require direct confrontation to be of use.

Guns make the most sense. They can be concealed and are effective at any range. One day I'd like to get a license for a .357 magnum. I don't really believe a gun is necessary for protection or anything like that, and I'd never dream of using it on a person (or even threatening them), but I'd like to have one to take to a range or a farm or somewhere and shoot stuff.
a sword is practical as long as you have space to use it. depending on the sword a longsword has more mass at the end allowing for much greater damage then a knife and a short sword is balanced and can be used defensively and to pierce the enemy. now i am not foolish enough to believe that a sword is more powerful than a gun (or at least one that can handle lethal rounds) but for what it is a good quality sword is a deadly weapon also training to the point of expertise is only required to go against a skilled opponent thugs and muggers don't have much skill they rely on intimidation and size (either their body size or holding a gun) a good 3 feet of sharp steel will take them out with ease as long as you don't get shot

Let's put ti this way: I would be completely happy if a feudal style of society came back and we all had to carry weapons.

I'm just curious about what you think about weapons. Do you carry any to protect yourself, and if so why? Do you refuse to carry anything because of some moral or religious taboo?

I don't know. I was watching a knife show and wondered what your stance is/was. Its late and I'm bored.
I don't carry a weapon mostly out of practicality and experience. I've lived on the edge of the ghetto of Flint, MI (the #3 city in the USA for violent crime rate) and picked up enough tricks to avoid being accosted (and I'm 6'8" and huge). I just don't feel the need to arm myself.

That said, if I were to carry a weapon for personal protection, it would likely be a Beretta 9mm or a S&W .357. I've fired both of them before and they're accurate, easy to conceal and pack enough punch to put an unarmored man on the ground and keep him there.

If I were to carry a weapon for the intimidation factor, I'd go with a katana. There's enough mysticism in the West about samurai and martial arts that if you were to carry a katana and look like you know what you're doing, most everyone would give you a wide berth.

I like guns. A lot(NRA Life Member). I personally have 10 guns(4 rifles, 2, shotguns, and 4 pistols).

Despite my love of firearms I cannot carry one because of the laws in CA. I've been told it is easier to become a cop than it is to get a concealed carry permit(probably an exaggeration but I haven't looked into it seriously yet and I wouldn't carry until I had a ton of training). I carry a Leatherman Wave multitool and a Surefire 6PD flashlight. The Leatherman has a good knife and is weighty so I could use it like a roll of quarters in my fist. And my Surefire isn't the brightest, but it'll leave you seeing spots for a while even during the day.

edit: I also like swords and knives. I would like to carry a dedicated knife with me, but the knife laws are more complicated than the gun laws.
That sucks, I know here in Colorado it is a 2 day class, one of classroom, and one on the range. If you pass then you get to conceal carry. And out here alot of people carry. Not thats its really needed, if it is posable. Unfortunately im only 20, so in six months when i can I will differently be there. So Colorado has good gun laws, and its the most awesome state.

Well weapons are illegal in my country but i would chose the gun. it's like a sword except you can kill a guy way over there, that and less blood on the carpet and weapon.

being a collector of weapons mostly knives and swords due to being in canada i like to have them but i often only carry the larger knives with me concealed to transport them and i have a small pocket knife that well. stays in my pocket but if i could legally carry a sword with me i would be one of the first and only people where i live to do so

and i dont understand how its illegal to carry a big knife some places nevermind a sword but you can carry a hand gun that can kill from twice the distance

I know a bit of Tae Kwon Do (don't care what people say about it), and I don't really carry any weapons for protection, but I do have a katana hung up on the wall...

Here in Indiana I just had to fill out the paper work and bring a money order to the sheriffs office for a background check. Then again, its Indiana.
