I began watching Into the West again, the TV miniseries released in 2005. The basic gist of it is a long narrative of American expansion into the west between the 1820's and 1890's.

More info on the series itself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Into_the_West_%28TV_miniseries%29

In the first episode, they speak of the Lakota medicine wheel, and of how every person is born with one of four virtues. Strength, Wisdom, Courage, or Generosity. Everyone is born with just one of these, and may find the others throughout their lifetime.

Now regardless of what you think of the Lakota and/or Native American spirituality, or any religion in general, I think it is fair to ask the simple question: which of these virtues do you believe you were born with? And why do you think it is that one and not the others?

I believe mine is generosity - it's never been easy for me to see any form of suffering or sadness and not try to make things better. Coupled with my interest in becoming some degree of an EMT, and I think it's fair to say this is mine.

Well it's based on the fact that the belief is you are born with one and only one of them.

These concepts are vague and could be interpreted differently by each individual.
But i suppose i would pick all of them.
I think some people would debate the notion of generosity as a virtue (though i would not be one of them).
Oh and that sounds like complete nonsense, being innately born with a vague characteristic oh pish-posh.

I have great wisdom when it comes to something other than my own life. Otherwise, I'm completely clueless.

Strength? Well yes i'm quite strong, but not to that extent.
Wisdom? When I think wisdom I imagine an old hermit on a mountain, that's not me.
Generosity? Hahahaahahahahah! Really?

So that leaves Courage. I say whatever I want regardless of the circumstances, and I always do what I feel is right.

I put generosity because I spend money on other people like it's going out of fashion, and I'd do pretty much anything to help someone.

It was a toss up between that, courage and wisdom but, although I like to think I have quite a bit of common sense and can give pretty good, stable and rational advice from time to time, I suck at taking my own advice and, if you factor in actual academic intelligence, I'm nothing more than average, so couldn't in good conscience choose it.

And I have strong morals and will argue over any point/belief I feel strongly about and will defend those who either cannot, or may be too afraid of confrontation, to stand up for themselves. I tend to steer away from confrontation when possible too but, when it's necessary, I'm not afraid to face it head on.

However, those two aren't AS dominant in my personality so...

Plus, is strength physical or mental? I'm as weak as dish water physically, and the mental thing could be partly tied in with courage. However, if we're talking all senses of the word, I'm not dominated completely by strength.

I don't really believe that we are only born with one (although one might be slightly more dominant than the others), but it's an interesting concept. Great idea for a thread, OP!

I'd go with wisdom. I'm a very dimwitted person on the outside. I have ADHD and often appear loud and stupid but, when taken seriously, I've often surprised my friends with my wisdom. I can read people, understand situations and predicaments better than other people I know. This also ties in with generosity; because I can read people well, I also like to help them

I'm not strong at all. At least, not physically.
I can't say I have a lot of courage especially about the unknown
If you had said intelligence I might consider that, but as far as wisdom goes, I lack that a bit.

I'll have to go with generosity. If anyone asks me for a favor, I can't often turn them down; even if it's a stranger.

Strength, from the Lakota standpoint, I believe does mean more of a physical strength than mental, though either can be acceptable. Physical strength is easy enough to characterize, I think the difference here between courage and mental toughness is that courage is facing things you or others may fear with bravery, while mental toughness may fall more along the lines of stubbornness - not budging in the worst of conditions.

If that makes any sense.

I'd guess that I was born with wisdom, but now I think that my generosity and wisdom are both equals.

Well I chose wisdom because :
I am not strong.
I got no courage...but that means I got courage because I got the...( Damn philosophy).
But I got a bit of wisdom...kinda...depends on the definition of wisdom.
And I do not think I am generous because the generous acts that i perform is things that I think you should do.
