1991 red Ford Ranger xlt

4x4 with stx package
v6
4 speed manual with overdrive
4.0 liters of American steel!

Hey, someone had to bring some power to this discussion.
I don't know much about trucks but how come it's only got a 4 speed with overdrive rather than 5 gears or even 6?

I drive a 1998 Peugeout 106 1.1 and I love it, it handles like a go-kart.
Trucks have different gearing to allow them to pull heavy weight like trailers.......and rocks.

to put it into perspective my truck uses the same engine as the mustang (sports car) but it can pull more because of the suspension and gearing.

That makes sense I guess they are geared and tunes for Torque not horsepower then?

WHY IS AMERICAN NOT ON THE POLL?

I have a plain white, windowless Ford Econoline bus. I plan to paint "Free Candy" on it and cruise around suburbia... Also my dream car is a 2-door jeep wrangler.

Of the things on the poll I have to go with Italian, just because I love their sports cars

No "American" option? Either the Op isn't from the States or he has it in for Detroit (can't say I blame him, though).

I drive a Pontiac Grand Am, an '05, the last year they made 'em. And I love her so...
No offense but the topic says "the BEST cars are" .. although I would make a compromise and put US cars instead of French wich are mostly rubbish.
Yes, French cars are better than the tripe americans put out. None of that live-rear axle crap.

I used to drive a Renault Clio (so French)...until I got into an accident and turned it into a very expensive jigsaw puzzle.

Haven't owned a car since.

Pontiacs are damned good cars. As for the overwhelming majority of GM, et al, I'd have to agree with you. Though Volkswagons are vastly overrated.

2006 Mazda RX-8. Rotary wankel engine for the win!
What do you win? Highest fuel bill, highest insurance bill maximum road tax bill or lowest resale value?

56 Fabia VRS not massively fast off the mark but get it in the torque band and the thing fucking flies.

Not my actual car but same colour and model so..

I would like to get an argument regarding Volkswagen being overrated. I don't know how those cars are seen in the US but I can tell you that in Europe they are considered some of the best cars , especially if compared to their low prices (Volkswagen is the largest manufacturer in the world , in terms of production).
Also the cars are not expensive and they are extremely reliable and have been for a long time ( The Vw Golf is the 3rd best-selling car in history , Beetle is #4 and Passat is #10 so that can't make them be rubbish ).
So I don't see anything overrated here ( maybe the newer models , like Scirocco , Touareg , Tiguan , those are pretty useless ) .

It was either this or a Chevy Cobalt for fuel economy. Love the Fit.

I see, so it IS a regional problem. In the US, they are pretty damned expensive, and they fall apart with great regularity. The bug and the jetta used to be more reliable, though.

I do not actually drive a car...
I have no real interest in driving cars/riding bikes... I used to ride a moped. But I sold it and bought a PC...
However, if I did drive a car, it would HAVE to be this:

Ah, "My other car is a Millenium Falcon."
A fine tribute to the days when the Simpsons was actually worth watching.

Anyways, Public Transport for me.
Not because I'm an environmentalist but because it's actually faster than the car.
