Any specific RPG you're referring to?

I dislike most RPG's with the typical boring class-archetype system.

But if I have to choose I suppose I usually play Warrior/skirmisher class-types.

Ranger. I like being quick with no armor, being sneaky, using a bow and daggers/shortswords, nature, and having animal companions.

Well i like supporting roguish classes. like my DDO rogue/bard, or in Dark Eye PnP my Schelm. Once in a while i like the healing role too.
Though sometimes it is a nice thing to just get into armor and grap a big weapon.
In Computer games a pure warrior/barbarian/fighter is just a nice thing for "just playing" without thinking too much. In Pen and Paper games they still can be very interesting characters and personalities.

I usually play as a big, grunting brute, charging into battle with a blunt object (or bare fists, when it's an option) and swear words. There's usually something cathartic about running up and beating things to death the old fashioned way that arrows, bullets, and magic most likely won't provide. If the magic system (assuming there is one) isn't boring, a mage usually follows.
This exactly.
maybe an axe or sword if they have higher attack value.

Sorcerer in DnD based games (heading along the Dragonkin or Bonemaster paths if available).

Although sometimes its just fun to minmax and go triple class Warrior/Cleric/Mage so you're tough cast heals and spells, as well as level up quickly :)

It is nice to have a buddy, perfect to help flank an enemy for an Ally too

Druids and Sorcerers, usually.

Also partial to mad scientists, warriors and beings of ultimate power.

Depends on the game, if its turned-based like FF1 then a warrior. If its some sort of couch co-op game that requires you to be with friends I prefer to be a healer just because its the easiest job.

In MMOs I prefer to be some sort of melee oriented magic user, although I can't really remember any games that let me do that from the start or at all :\

Might want to try a Teifling Warlock, they are meant to be power hungry Spell Casters

Im usually a damage mage with some small healing ability.
hmm never thought of that, but I'm better with one type of class rather then multiclass...unless its like a Warrior gaining the Duel Wielding Bonus of a Ranger, thats awesome

I switch back and forth between the damage dealing tank and the sneaky rogue, although I prefer the former.

EDIT: If we're talking D&D, I generally prefer Rangers. They have a nice balance of ranged and close up fighting strengths. Rogues aren't bad here either.

I usually GM.
But if I'm playing, I usually go for a magic user of some sort. Or a thief type.
...
Or both.

D&D and Palladium are good for mixing it up like that. But I always found Palladium a little easier to freestyle with.
