An interesting idea for a poll I've had for a while. By now you probably have a pretty good idea of what kind of Gamer you are. But how does this affect what you buy as far as games go? I've given some pre-set options but if you feel you don't fit to any of them well enough try and share with us what kind of spender (or lack thereof) you are. Without further delay, here is the descriptions.
Infinite Budget Wonder- Stable job, little to no more expensive hobbies, and lots of spare time. Your money goes to YOUR enjoyment of games. A new game announced that you may be interested in? Pre-ordered, super ridiculous bonus edition, payed in full. You can hardly recall a night where you were bored with what you currently have. And on that night you went out and bought 3 more games.
Window Shopper- The polar opposite of the former. You enjoy looking at games and watching your friends play them but you own next to none of your own. If a game really catches your interest and a friend isn't willing to let you play it it's time you went to your local renter. This isn't just for those down in the gutter financially; if you honestly feel your hard earned money needs to be put elsewhere then so be it. We ain't judging...much...
Game Connoisseur- You have a certain knack for quality. Before a game comes out you know how it's going to turn out and whether it's worth your money. You also own all the classics, many a game systems, and enough time to actually use them. No need to monitor your money so closely, you hardly spend any cash on anything below triple A quality. If someone has said it's pretty good you already have it on your "games I'll eventually rent" list.
Wasteland Trader- If there's a game out there that your friends have yet to procure it's yours to buy. That's where the complications start. You buy game A and everyone else will cover the rest of the Alphabet. Tired of your boring old A? Time to hand it over for that Q you've been eying. Eventually everyone will lose interest in Q however. That's when it goes to the nearest trade-in store for some money towards Z. After all, Q is so 3 weeks ago.
Speedster- Ooo, that game looks cool. Bam! Done. Oh wow, look at that one! One return later and your playing your new favorite game for 10 hours. But that was 10 hours ago! By now that's been returned and you've been stuck in an RPG for a good 14 or so. And then when THAT'S over well...I think you see the point. Rentals are what you live by and what you may die by. Why bother with buying when you can get 6 or so games, play them to completion, and return them for the same price? People must not be thinking clearly or someth...Ooo look that one!
Hoarder of Things- You buy games. You have tons of games. Maybe even too many games... Take a look at your nearest game shelf. Is it bursting out, onto the floor, and possibly onto your bed? Chances are a lot of those games you keep around because you might end up playing them again one day. But is that copy of Quake 4 really going to be booted up again in the near future? Doubtful, but you'd be damned if it ever saw the inside of a Game-Stop. When you buy a game it's there to stay.
Genre Shut In- Shooters, Adventure Games, and Maybe the occasional RPG. Racing games? You laugh at the prospect of turning for hours on end. Generally speaking, you know what you like and very rarely deviate. Trying out a Sports game will probably be remembered as some form of alcohol induced college experiment (and not the good kind). If it doesn't have that seal of quality that you've invented then it's not worth touching. You might poke it with a very long stick every now and then but that's about it.
I'm personally more of a Game Connoisseur just so I get the gist of what's happening as far as good games go. Though I do have tendencies of the others as well. If you fit the bill then tell us why and maybe some personal experiences. Don't be afraid to create your own title (that's where half the fun in making this thread came from anyways).
