I'm in between Casual and Hardcore.
But I do also play Party games and on my DS.
I'll get rid of some games I won't play again, but Gears 1,2 and eventually 3, GTA IV, Red Dead Redemption, Ghostbusters and Fable II and III are games I refuse to trade.

I'm a little bit hardcore when it comes to games like Fifa 11, where i'll play Online for ages then think "Sheeeeet, i've got to be up for work in 3 hours"

Not sure, to be honest. I've written about the industry in school a number of times, re-played a few games and am a combination of some of the above. I don't do MMOs or multiplayer unless people are in the room with me and will sometimes crunch numbers, if required. I also tend to avoid JRPGs, modern day FPSes that have five hour campaigns and loathe sports games that are not of the Blitz variety.

I am also one of those guys who guys games as art and would love to see more experimentation with the medium and a stronger emphasis placed on the fusion between story and gameplay. Heck, a stronger emphasis placed on interesting story lines in general would be nice. So I suppose I'm sort of a gaming hipster, in a way? That isn't very flattering I guess but oh well.

I'm a trophy whore, but only some of the time. It depends on how tedious or overly difficult it is to get the trophies. If I start to get bored, or I find it's simply too much work, I won't bother. This is why many multiplayer games I have often go unfinished.

I buy games that look fun, play the campaign to my best ability, maybe play it again, then do a lot of skirmish games (no multi), or do some modding to make it more fun. but some games I only play once every few months or so(like gta games). But I usually play untill I get bored...Then I move on to a new or different(old) game.

How about "the one who just plays".
How does that sound.
lol, "play it once and done" lol
Uh. No. Otherwise I would have said that.
Play as much as I feel like. Then stop until I feel like it again.
No particular preference. No particular style. I could play through a game once and never touch it again, or I could play through it over and over.
In other words, the one who just plays.

NO! Place yourself into an arbitrary group now! Sarcasm, folks. Sarcasm.

On topic:

Going by your definitions, I could be the type that plays once and is done, plays to get trophys, plays for multiplayer, or plays party games depending on the situation I find myself in.
NO MAKE ME
lol, hmm... guess that's another way of gaming I did not think about. sound to me like "how I feel at the moment" kinda thing. come to tink on it, am a bit like that to at times, so yea, i see your point

I am a Trophy gamer, and as previously pointed out, it applies to me as well that I only play what I like. The thing is though, I'm enamored with video games as a whole, and there are very few games I don't like, though there are many I'm not good at. But that's half the fun right? Learning to beat those impossible challenges with minimal skills and getting a reward--no matter how small or insignificant in the grand scheme of things--for your troubles?

I love multiplayer, as long as I'm playing with a group of friends.

Otherwise I like a single player campaign with replay value.

Where's the "Jack of all trades" option?
Sorry for the double post, but I like this one for when the game doesn't have Trophies. I'll still play previous-gen games.

Mostly, I like co-op games, because I find teamwork to be the most interesting and fun part of gaming. Besides that, I enjoy the occasional indie game and am often found playing music-type games, like AudioSurf.

I play things like TF2, L4D(2), Defense Grid: The Awakening, Total War (every series), AudioSurf, UT04, Rainbow Six: RavenShield, Cogs, and tons of other games...so, I guess I'm pretty varied.

Back when Diablo II came out, I played that for about two years, and Quake III Arena held my attention for about six months, I guess. Whatever I pick up that seems fun!

Same here. More of a social Multiplayer gamer.

I play to win mostly in objective games.

Well out of those I'll go with Trophy-whore...I enjoy my trophies but I can play a game and not need to get them, hell i'm playing KoToR currently which doesn't have them since well it's a old game, also I do enjoy a bit of Online-multiplayer.

Number Cruncher

There are a few games (i.e. Eve) where I just have so much fun pushing away my keyboard to make room for a pencil and paper. Even better when I have to alt tab out of the game to use Calculator.

I'm an RPG junkie, although I wouldn't call myself a number cruncher, unless I'm playing D&D and even then I'm more playing it for the roleplaying and story than rolling double 20's.

I am a bit of an Achievement Hunter, but mostly play just for fun. I am never serious and don't see the point in getting serious and stressed at games. They are meant to be enjoyed so I like to take full advantage of that and enjoy them.

Quick question, what's the difference between a multiplayer hound and a social gamer? Because social gaming, after all, is multiplayer.

And where would Minecraft fit in? Would that be a social game? (I usually only play the multiplayer)

I am another type of gamer: The cheap gamer

"The cheap gamer is consistently confused with the fanboy gamer as he will replay a game or several games many times. This may be in part because the game has great replay value but a larger part of this behavior is the lack of money to buy a bigger library. Locked into a routine, the cheap gamer has embraced his path and decided that the games he owns are good enough for the moment. He will eventually broaden his horizons but external pressures (real life) and financial concerns keep him boxed in. This doens't mean he is ignorant of the changing culture as he will keep up to date through visits to richer friends or via the internet."

Play it once and done.

I have waaaay too many games to go about playing them multiple times unless I really liked them or something. Plus, I have no interest in getting all the trophies or anything.

I like gaming for fun, which can mean competitive mutiplayer, an immersive story or getting some achievements. Thing is, though, I like being able to do whatever I'm in the mood for, and a certain friend keeps nagging all of us, like "oh, do some matchmaking/team deathmatch, we're going to do this gametype, not this!!!! or let's play custom games, I made this gametype, it pwns!!!!" he's not adverse to complaining either, basically a game type isn't skewed/unfair/poorly made as long as he wins, which sometimes reflects in his custom content.

In other words, I'm really the kind of gamer who, if I get tired of something, I'm done, regardless of the bitching it attracts, though that friend has put me off private multiplayer stuff with my friends.
