Any kind of multiplayer is good enough for me as long as it doesn't suck or grow too old too fast. Growing too old too fast seems to happen more often on offline mode though.

I stick to my Rule 1 of online gaming "Always travel with a buddy". So "Any Competitive" isn't my thing. Besides, I prefer team games where there's an actual goal besides "Kill ALL Enemies!". I'm a sucker for objectives...

Co-op so long as my team is competent.
I do enjoy BF3 Multiplayer, though I will always prefer co-op games vs AI. Far more fun and light hearted.

I like the online Co-operative like Left 4 Dead, it actually requires gamers to stop and communicate, staying in a group and looking after each rather than being solo and rushing off ahead.

Co-op for the most part, but I enjoy the more casual competitive stuff, like Reach's Big Team Battle, Action Sack, Multi-team, Grifball, and custom games. It helps keep my skills sharp playing against others in good fun.

Anything with a massive amount of competition and skill in it. I may not be great at these games but I love searching to skill and games that reward learning and dedication. MoBA's and RTS's moastly. Although I do also like shooters, old school PC shooters. Liking the look of tribes ascend atm.

I'll play anything and everything, though my absolute favorite is same-room/screen co-op.

Most of my friends have a different thought process than me, so co-op games are always interesting because of the varying play styles. Normally we're working towards the same goal, and we don't take the game too seriously. Working on my second play through of Lord of the Rings: War in the North same-screen co-op and loving it.

However, one of my friends I can't play anything with. He's just a troll and I can't stand that type of person. His idea of having fun is ruining the fun of everyone else, and It's way too immature for my liking. We can't even play a game like Little Big Planet together because he's soo intent on working against his partner(s). Hell, if we're on a team in a 2HG game of Magic The Gathering, he will play cancels on my spells just for kicks. I make it a point to play games with him as little as possible.

I'm kind of surprised by the OP: I'm not a fan of online multiplayer either so I would have thought there would have been an option for Offline in General or something like that. I like Co-Op and, I like Competitive but I only like doing it when I can smack the guy next to me if I lose too many times. Online multiplayer is just too impersonal to me.

Basically Battlefield, TF2 and Enemy Territory. Competitive class based team games. I used to love playing at informal LANs but so few games support LAN nowadays. I'm voting online competitive, but all the games I play require you to co-operate. Looking forward to Planetside 2 if Oceania gets a server.

I prefer Co-op.

I enjoy working together with others (specifically IRL friends) to overcome challenges.

Co op in Re5? Re5 Mercenaries? Borderlands? Left 4 Dead? Love them.

And while I'm not all the competitive (although my best friend is SUPER competitive), I do enjoy competitive multiplayer when in teams. Like TF2, Halo team battles, etc.

There's just something I like about being part of a cohesive unit that can accomplish more than a single person.

For the next twenty minutes I had to endure hearing him and another guy go from "I fucked your mother" to "I can't hear you, you're breaking up" and I suddenly understood the kind of assholes I was playing with. After he left, I ending ending my Gold Xbox Live membership and haven't played online since.
So I can understand not wanting to be this guy's friend any more, but canceling your Gold subscription and not playing online any more because of one person? This sounds quite excessive. I mean, I don't enjoy hearing trash talkers, so if I ever start hearing them in my ear, I mute them; similarly, I often yell at my TV in frustration when playing, but I make sure my mic isn't on when I do so (so nobody can hear my yelling). Being able to play online and chat with friends - and coordinate attacks and everything - is worth having to hit "mute" occasionally. So explain again, why did you end your subscription?

OT, I enjoy most types of multiplayer - I enjoy a lot of competitive multiplayer FPS games, I enjoy co-op modes online and offline, and playing competitive local smash brothers is fun. I tend to play competitive more than not, but I think that's because co-op modes generally get boring for me (I wonder if Mass Effect 3 will buck this trend).

Beating your friends in the close quarters of your living room is often a joy. Timesplitters, Fusion Frenzy 2, and Mashed are definately some of the greatest and most fun-inducing experiences ever.

Multiplayer for me in terms of online with strangers has become less of a fun experience due to the fact none of my mates have PS3s. Where's the fun in Battlefield 3 when you can't look around to see your mates ripping the enemy to shreds alongside you? Or sticking C4 to your Jeep without telling your chums, driving straight-toward a tank, bailing out without telling them then hearing them curse your name as you make them involuntary martyrs. No fun with strangers. They just shout abuse at you and send you threatning messages.

So to wrap it up, competitive off-line, and copetitive co-op online for me.

Online and a mix on competitivness,

This is where Halo comes in, its fun as hell, you don't even have to win to have a good game, but when necessary, we go into "Win mode" where we work as a team flowingly.

Definitely co-op for me.

I do enjoy competitive multiplayer as well sometimes. But I feel I play my best when I'm actually helping someone rather than fighting them.

Games like Left 4 Dead, Dark Souls, and Rayman Origins are pretty good examples. (Although the last one doesn't have online co-op. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I'm sort of undecided at the moment.)

I really like all basic kinds of multiplayer, but I particularly enjoy anything local because that is always the most fun. I mean we've all had those moments when you playing something with your friends and the hardest part is lining up your shots while laughing so hard. Though I really don't care for online co-op all that much, but its okay.

I prefer co-op, both in the "playing the Halo Campaign with a buddy online/offline" sense and in the "playing the [demo for now]Mass Effect 3 multiplayer with buddies" sense.

I do occasionally like competitive multiplayer, but only when it's a slightly wacky game and there's lots of people involved.

Offline competitive ideally. I prefer to be able to see my victim's reaction as I drive them into the floor.

Then again, I'm always up for engaging in some jolly cooperation.

Offline and Co-op. Nothing like calling some friends over and shooting the hell out of eachother. Or finishing a game with a friend by your side. It's a pretty good experience. Online just doesn't offer that.
