FEAR was the last game that had truly great twitch multiplayer. It was funny because consolized shooters were already starting the decline in competitive FPS gaming. The noobs were noobier, but the oldskoolers were still allowed to do what they'd been doing for a decade.
The result was lots of matches where I could go 8-1 to 10-1 kill-death ratio; scoring more than 80 kills in a 10-15 minute roiund. I remember sometimes you'd see like 95/5 after a 15 minute round. Games like BF3/COD don't allow people to do that anymore, because they know it causes people to quit in disgust. Bad for sales.
A lot of the folks who remember competitive gaming during the big tourney years, where people rocket jumped around maps with god like reflexes, are of the opinion that post-xbox gamers have no idea what competitive gaming is.
P.S. I came across this last night and thought it was very fitting.
