Monster cables are also scamalicious. They charge outragious prices for A/V cables. In the digital age it really doesn't matter that much how high quality your cable is, at least to a certain extent, and not to hundreds of dollars extent.
Quoted for truth: Not only does it not make that big of a difference -- or any, when it comes to HDMI and other digital cables -- but along with Bose, Monster Cable charges top dollar for products that are mid-range quality at best. I'm not opposed to grabbing a Monster cable if it's a decent length and on a clearance sale for, say, ten dollars or less, but man is the MSRP a ripoff.

OT: Razor blades and ink jet ink cartridges are horrible ripoffs. I use a Gilette Fusion razor, and while it's the best razor I've ever had, the blades hurt my wallet big time. I actually wound up buying a second razor just for the blades, because it was that much cheaper than buying the separate blades. Ink cartridges are the same way: pure profiteering, charging multiple times what the components are worth. In both cases, the specific design is usually patented to prevent off brand versions from being made.
Get a straight edge shaving razor, once you learn how to use it nicks are not a problem and they give you the best shave plus save you a ton of money in replacement blades.

Shoot, I'd probably nick myself so badly that my jugular would need repair. Besides, the only straight razor I've ever seen outside of a museum belonged to my great grandfather and was something we found in my grandparents house after they died. For comparison, my grandparents grew up during the great depression, and weren't exactly the oldest children in their families. Thanks for the advice, though -- I have to admit, it would be kind of cool to shave with a straight razor.

Yeah sure but in the commercial they clearly stated that it was supposed to make you lose weight. Which I just don't get.

Probably brand name cereals. You can get Fr00t L00ps for $7.99, or you can get Fruity-O's for $3.00. They both taste the exact same, it's just that one of them has a cartoon tucan mascot. I really don't understand shit like that.
For things like Cola though, it actually makes a difference because different colas and other drinks have their own secret ingredients that make them taste different. So the $1.25 PC Cola actually isn't as good a deal as the $3.00 Coca Cola :(

Also, premade foods, especially things like pastas or tv dinners. You're basically requiring a couple minutes of working your ass off at work to pay for it, just to avoid 15 minutes of cooking leisurely at home and getting a significantly better meal.

That vibrating belt that is supposed to make you lose weight. How was that even going to work?
The vibrations encourage you to jerk the weight away? I have no idea.

Has to be the Shamwow, doesn't it?
Damnit! Beat me to the punch. Shamwow is pure garbage. I just want to know how they filmed all those commercials because it doesn't even work close to how it was portrayed in commercials.
If you watch the commercial where he pours soda on the carpet square you can see a mess up. After he pours the pop you can see it pooled under to square then it cuts away and back to the square and the pool is gone BEFORE he uses the shamwow.

anyway, Shamwow was gonna be my answer but alas, ninja'd again

You ninja. But really, I can't think of anything else more useless than bottled water. (unless you are somewhere different and the tap water is foul)

The shake-weight. Google it.

Not so much a scam as it is the worlds best orchestrated practical joke though...

I don't know, but I'd be tempted to say most of my friend's medical beliefs. She is very much into alternative medicine. For example, she needs an operation on her knee, and as opposed to trusting the orthopedic surgeon, who has made his entire career around studying the various intricities of joints such as the knee, she wants to have it done by a chiropracter.

Hell, I'll just say any medical treatments that are either unproven or disproven yet continue to be practiced. Anywhere else you just lose money, you get scammed over medical, and you could very well be taking your life in your hands.

To be fair, it's intended to be given as a gag gift, but you'd be surprised how often you hear about people buying them because they really thought they needed them.
