You need two additional options.
Male: Varies
Female: Varies
Because I'm honestly not drawn to either sex when I play a game. Usually by the time I sit down to play I have a character loosely in mind.
Skyrim was always gonna be Usod, the male Dark Elf illusionist vampire.
Just like Fallout: New Vegas would inevitably have Elizabeth, dignified English mercenary.
Or Mass Effect would have Nathan Shepard, the jolly red-headed Oyrish space-marine.
And Fable 3 would clearly feature my nameless Ice Queen with her highly improbable beehive hairstyle.
I can't pin one down. I guess I lean to male a bit more, typically?
All things being equal in terms of gameplay, I'm a male usually playing as a male. Mostly so people looking over my shoulder don't go "OMG WHY YOU A GIRL PERVERT".
Depends heavily on the game. For example, Dragon Age (Origins and II) and Skyrim I've gone with women, while Mass Effect I tend to play a male. Still, I am overwhelmingly female when I play an RPG.
Why? I'm not really sure. Possibly because games are so overloaded with masculine male protagonists I relish the chance to play a solid female character arc. Possible being a short male who often feels the need to reaffirm his masculinity in manly ways in regular society I relish the chance to play as something a little more effeminate in the safety of my own private world that is the single player RPG.
The excuse I generally use is that if I'm gonna be staring at an arse for 100+ hours, it may as well be an arse that I enjoy staring at.
I when given the choice always play as a female character as usually the males are too bulky especially in Halo: Reach where the males just look silly.
I'm a female gamer, and if I actually have the option to play as a female, you better believe I will.
With that said, I can and will play games as a default male. I don't become fully engrossed in the story though. It's kind of like I'm watching a movie, when I play a male character, instead of actually RPing.
I'm a male who plays female, the reason is quite simple - your gonna be staring at their backside for hours and to me the female form is more aesthetically pleasing.
Your avatar is so much scarier now that I know what it is.
OT: I normally play male. It's just easier to get into the character (it is role-playing a version of myself I'd like to be, under the game-universe circumstances).
In just about every RPG I play it's almost a perfect 50-50 split. Not intentional either, I just think of a character and decide if it would be more appropriate for them to be a male or a female.
Meh, if I have to look at it from behind for 20+ hours, I'd prefer it be a female rear-end. If I can immerse myself with the help of a first-person view, I play a male, as I am one.
I play either gender regardless. In like 95% of the games I have played that give a choice. I have an equal amount of play time as male or female, even on WoW I have 3 male and 3 female characters. It depends on the game really. Mass Effect or Dragon Age like games: to see how the characters act towards the different sexes and games like World of Warcraft if the female gender looks better than the male, I don't care what you say a female Draenei will always look better than a male one in my opinion.
