One of the great rules of good sci-fi is to take a normal name and change just one letter...John becomes Vohn, Jane becomes Jaze, etc...which makes it distinct but somehow familiar. Or maybe I just made that up.

1. I'm going with a Male Paragon Shepard. That means mean-sounding names like Seth are out.

Anyway, I called mine Jermajesty Shepard, so logically you should name yours Dutch Shepard, or if you want to be a little more roundabout with this algorithm I've devised, call him Matthias Shepard. Or McBain. Or James Bond. If you want to make the character a little more sympathetic, name him Kevin. No one called Kevin is truly as confident as they seem.

I just named my last one "Commander", so that it would actually make sense when that's what everyone called him.

So his full name with rank is Commander Commander Shepard? :-D Love it! Kinda like when people put a "the" infront of something with The already in its name, like The "Los Muertos"

Give him a name that means something to you, or don't give it much thought. It has no bearing on any aspect of the game whatsoever, except for the player to identify the save games. Anyway, here are some suggestions:

- Default Shepard
- Generic Shepard
- Paragon Shepard
- Shepard Shepard
- Rocky Balboa Shepard
- Steven Shepard (Like Steven Segal only with body armour and biotics)

Alternatively, consider something exotic, such as Mikhail, Piotr, Jean-Paul, Marco, etc. But most importantly, play Vanguard because they rock Mass Effect. I downloaded an ME1 save to have an ME2 playthru with particular choices made. His name was "Donutsftw Shepard". I did change it of course.

Does it really matter? Considering that the name is fucking never mentioned in the game, ever. Unless you count the skill screen, or the save data thing. You spend more time looking at Garrus' disturbingly well animated ass than your own name.

Ragnar sounds made up. Steve is a real name.

If you want to come up with a good name here's some advice. Take a scrabble set, spell out some of your favourite normal names with it, then take some of the high scoring letters, put them above the name and see if you can jimmy them in somewhere, instant sci-fi name!

Tristan is a nice sort of paladinish name, Orion? kind of spacey and also heroic.

Less creative one? Bruce (everyone knows Bruce is an awesome name...*cough*Batman*cough*...)

If I have two boys I'm gonna call them Clark and Bruce. :3
