Will it benefit me, personally, in any way.

Weigh up required expenditure of time/effort/money, factor in risk of personal detriment, then compare that to the sheer joy I feel when I'm deliberately being lazy. There had better be a hefty payoff for me to actually move my arse. When you add personal detriment of any kind to the mix, then the payoff has to be larger.

Consequences. If I were above the law my house would be filled with stolen goods and the skeletons of my enemies.

Hell, it wouldn't even be my goddamn house.

Me? Do bad things? I'm an innocent angel! See my halo?

Okay... I have done some bad things in my life. But I usually don't do them because I don't wanna be caught. And I hate making those I care about sad or disappointed.

because there are repercussions to most wrong doing. However if i lived in a vacuum in which all my nefarious deeds would lead to my benefit...why not.

I'm too much of a nice guy to do bad things. Except lying, I am a spectacular liar. Although by admitting that, I may have compromised the earlier statment...maybe that's for you to decide

I dont want to go to prison - They knock out your front teeth so you cant bite down, And with the way i look i'd probably end up someones *****. (certainly NOT out of choice)

And because i know people are assholes, Some people make mistakes, And because there's very little you cant do without a bit of hard work.

Numerous reasons:

#1. Such acts are deleterious to society: they disrupt the security and safety of others, they lower production as a result, they cause material damages to companies, leading to lesser tax-income to the government and cause expences to society. Acts leading to increased workload and amount of suffering for a larger group of people than the people who stand to gain from the act, should be discouraged.

#2. Quite understadably there are punisments for doing 'bad' things. Such punishments and the reputation accompanying the punishments serve to do me more harm than any coiceivable 'bad' act could bring me good. In essence, this is a result of a simple cost-benefit analysis.

#3. I would not wish such acts to be visited upon myself. I wish to live a secure, stable and free life like most others. If others were to act in 'bad' manner and do things resulting in deleterious effects upon me, I would feel sad and angry. I know how uncomfortable those feelings are and because I emphatize with people, I would not voluntarily visit such misfortunes upon them.

#4. I believe it inherently wrong to hurt others or bring them misfortune, for simple personal gain.

#5. To me, life is precious and wondrous. We get only one shot at it: once we die, that's it. Due to it's transitory nature, life is all the more valuable and should be nurtured and protected. I believe that once we die off, we should leave mankind and society slightly better off than what it was before we were born. This way, our decendants will have a better change to live a good, secure and free life, able fulfill their goals to a greater degree than we did. That in itself is a worthy goal, I believe. To act in a 'bad' manner, to break the well-founded laws of society and to give jack s**t about others is not conductive to reaching this goal.

Therefore, I act in what I perceive to be moral manner.

Both. Morals and punishment. Although I wouldn't say equally. I'm curious though as to how most people vote here, assuming everyone is honest.

As the perfect person I need to have perfect morals as humanity must look to me as an example of how it should be.

Because the world gives you gifts in turn that are better then doing the bad things to begin with.....and I guess it works in real life too.
Along the lines of this, I'd have said karma

I don't do "bad" things because I see why they are bad.

Your second option should be divided up.

There is the philosophical look at it and the view that there is an objectively true morality out there.

I go for the former position.

I don't think there's any single answer someone can give, its situational.

I don't kill people because I have the overwhelming feeling that its wrong.
I don't get into fights because something in the back of my mind prevents me from doing so, even when I'm really pissed off, its like my sub conscious mind is telling me its not worth the trouble that would result.
I don't steal because its unfair to the people from whom you're stealing.
I don't run around naked because despite being "natural" I just don't want to, I like to keep my privates private.

And I don't pirate videogames (much) for 2 reasons. I used to do it a lot, but now I have money, I know more about the industry and see genuinely good games getting ignored and people still complain about lack of quality in games. So I do my part to support quality games. Also I hear more and more about people getting hefty fines for illegally downloading music and games, I can't deny that has made me more cautious.

Your poll is slightly borked. My vote is on "Nothing", but not because I'm a heartless wench and stab 'n slash away, but because I have absolutely no reason as to why I'm not a top criminal. I realize that crime does pay off and that I could probably do it right with good research. I realize that morality are simply codes made up by larger instantions that probably have no use in the grand scheme of thing. I just... don't do bad stuff. Without any real reason. It's just not me.
