Mainly because if I do bad stuff, the government will send some guys with guns after me.

Of course, when I discover my inner saiyan powers, I'm going to go ramapage around the world doing whatever the hell I like.

Short version: if i won't do good, who will?

Long version:

Numerous reasons:

#1. Such acts are deleterious to society: they disrupt the security and safety of others, they lower production as a result, they cause material damages to companies, leading to lesser tax-income to the government and cause expences to society. Acts leading to increased workload and amount of suffering for a larger group of people than the people who stand to gain from the act, should be discouraged.

#2. Quite understadably there are punisments for doing 'bad' things. Such punishments and the reputation accompanying the punishments serve to do me more harm than any coiceivable 'bad' act could bring me good. In essence, this is a result of a simple cost-benefit analysis.

#3. I would not wish such acts to be visited upon myself. I wish to live a secure, stable and free life like most others. If others were to act in 'bad' manner and do things resulting in deleterious effects upon me, I would feel sad and angry. I know how uncomfortable those feelings are and because I emphatize with people, I would not voluntarily visit such misfortunes upon them.

#4. I believe it inherently wrong to hurt others or bring them misfortune, for simple personal gain.

#5. To me, life is precious and wondrous. We get only one shot at it: once we die, that's it. Due to it's transitory nature, life is all the more valuable and should be nurtured and protected. I believe that once we die off, we should leave mankind and society slightly better off than what it was before we were born. This way, our decendants will have a better change to live a good, secure and free life, able fulfill their goals to a greater degree than we did. That in itself is a worthy goal, I believe. To act in a 'bad' manner, to break the well-founded laws of society and to give jack s**t about others is not conductive to reaching this goal.

Therefore, I act in what I perceive to be moral manner.
This.

i dont beleive there is absolute good and absolute evil. simply a mater of perspective.

I do many things that society would deem bad, i do many things that society would deem good. I do many things that many subcultures within society would deem either good or bad depending on their differing views. I beleive we all do.

It is true that fear of punishment stops me doing some things - i will not call these things good or bad but let us call them illegal or unconventional. I feel ashamed that my fear rules me so, I wish i had the courage to forgoe my own life or freedom to do what i feel is right from my perspective but it is not always easy.

The oposite is also true. I am a falable person, i have done things i was not pleased i did - even tho they were totaly acceptable by many peoples standards and totaly legal.

there is no good, no evil, no enforcable morality. only shades of grey that pass for emotions and instinct governed by our willpower and experience. laws are a product of sociatal living allowing many to operate as one. We are as free as we choose to be, if we can accept the consequences.

I generally find that life is a lot simpler if you abide by most of the rules, especially the big ones. Call me apathetic, but I don't feel the need to do 'bad' things just to liven up a Monday evening or whatever.

I believe someone should act not out of subservience to law but out of belief of what's right and wrong. I don't care about the law. If I believe something is the right thing to do, I'll do it. And if I believe something is the wrong thing to do, I will stay away.

morals, pretty much. Also, I don't want to hurt the few friends I have left by doing something stupid.

My sense or morals, ethics, and a bit of common sense keep me out of trouble. Some things/situations just aren't worth the trouble that come with them.

While I am generally a religious person and sometimes allow my background to guid my thinking when it comes to doing, "Right and wrong," I have devised this simple little concept that I think everyone can agree on - religious or not:

Morals are subjective and ethics can be easily ignored, but common sense is something that is rarely ever debatable.

Empathy. And it's affect, not effect (except in rare archaic and formal circumstances 'effect' is a noun, e.g. the effect that was affected).

The main thing that puts me off doing bad things? Blood stains. They are a ***** to remove...
Haha, try one part coke, one part dish washing detergent and three parts eggnog Molotov...
Don't ask me how I know that...
If i think i can get away with it, nothing stops me, unless i change my mind
Otherwise it's the consequences..

Two figments of my conscience that look like Peter Molyneux as the Horned Reaper and Shigeru Miyamoto as Princess Peach. Just like the cartoons.

Because i have no motivation to? If i dont see a point in it im not going to do it. Simple enough.
We are of similar mind. Admittedly consequences play a role for more than obvious reasons however it is a strong lack of motivation to do some of the truly wicked things in this world or because I find them disgusting to even fathom. Some of those wicked things however I could be motivated to do under the correct circumstances.

Morals and ethics. By the way, the true test of a man is what he does when no one is watching. When there are no repercussions, the true nature of a person is realized.
