I much as I love MLP, I will admit we've pretty much taken over this forum, and that's odd considering this is a gaming forum after all. I'm a Brony, I'm proud of it, but I don't think we need THIS many threads about it.
Skyrim is a close second, but at least it makes sense for the kind of website this is.

Pony threads are nearly non-existent. I'll tell you what the true culprit of this forum is.

Threads that exist purely to give the OP's ego a good hard wanking. There are three primary types of these threads:

- "What [something] do you like that nobody else does?" Cue dozens of teenagers talking about this garage band/indie game/art film that you probably never heard of, they're pretty obscure, but I think they're pretty awesome.
- "What [something] do you hate that everybody else likes?" Cue dozens of teenagers lambasting Halo, The Godfather, U2, Modern Warfare, The Dark Knight, Michael Jackson, etc; all of them expressing complete bafflement as to how anyone could possibly like these things.
- "Why all the hate/love on [something]?" These are just a restructured form of thread types 1 and 2.

As someone who spends a pathetic (as in huge) amount of time on this website, I seethe every time another one of these bloody threads comes into existence.

If I had to choose from your list though I'd probably go with non-videogame rants (I'm guilty of posting in a few of them myself). This isn't a bloody soapbox where you get to whine about this girl you like not liking you back. Keep that shit to yourself, and if you must share it, do so in the advice forum.

It seems like the threads that actually have entertainment value get locked nigh-immediately.
Like what? The game-type threads?
Just earlier today we were supposedly conquered by a man with elephants.

That thread got locked.

Now we have about 5 pony threads and "What's some shit you like that other people don't?"
That guy was pretty cool. His earlier thread calling for discussion of a work of fiction combining every other work of fiction ever got him suspended for some reason, despite being hilarious. More comedic non-sequiturs, I say.

OP: Brony threads and the ones that ask: "Why do some people like/hate [popular/unpopular] [game/book/film/show]?"

The former because their defensiveness is out of place, when the reason people dislike Bronies is more because they never shut up about their show of choice, and less because said show is aimed at preteen girls.

The latter always surprises me; it's as though the thread starters have just discovered that opinions and subjectivity exist.

Also, the Skyrim and MW3/BF3 threads are only because it's release season for those games. Give them a month or two and they'll die down.

I'm a brony, and I'm still going with MLP threads.

We have user group and steam chat for a reason.

If I see a thread I'm not interested in I just don't comment. I don't see why we have to discourage any specific kind of thread; if people don't want to talk about it they won't. If nobody cared then it would simply fade into obscurity. Clearly some people do so it keeps coming up. The only way I see to prevent it is to just bury the repeat threads under fresh topics. Give the community something new to talk about, don't post in the the thread you're tired of, aforementioned thread goes to page 2, then 3, then 4, and it's forgotten. We murdered it slowly and sneakily like we were poisoning its tea.

... Then, a year later, someone resurrects it as a zombie thread and then (and only then) can we kill it with fire.

This. Also, a brony and I can only roll my eyes whenever I see one of those threads.

My vote goes for bronies. Seriously. It's kinda weird.
To be fair most of the time it's not us making the thread, it's generally someone being the 500th fucking person to ask 'What's with teh poniez?' with half the replies are people who are quite vindicated in asking why they didn't just use the search bar. But to be fair there are many bronies who also make similar threads and it's annoying, it's annoying to see people to post such obnoxious flame bait, it's annoying to see the fans who never fucking leave people alone, it's annoying to see people regurgitate the same shit in every thread, it's annoying to see people ***** about it and it's annyoing to see people ***** about people bitching about it. The overall problem being with any repeat threads that people really have some kind of deathly fucking aversion to the search bar. Que sera, sera, I guess.

That's true, but I was just focusing on the topic rather than who started it

"(Popular game) sucks because of high sales figures." (Paraphrased...)

"Why I didn't like (popular game)" (And why we care? Oh, they never include that part.)

Anything Brony related. Seriously, I don't go around making six threads a day asking why people watch House or Scrubs. They're just TV shows. People watch them.

Can't really think of anything else at the present time.

Fair enough, I'm pretty sick of seeing them altogether, when we have a group and steam chat for that anyway as the user above me mentioned.

My vote, personally, goes for Skyrim.

It seems like every time I visit the video game section, there's a new one.

You need to add an all of the above option to the poll(personally I'm also sick of the "bwwaaa Origin is from Satan" threads), seriously people lets get some original threads in here

Gotta be honest bro, if people on the escapist were more chill as fuck and kiiiiinda gave a shit about being tolerant and were letting people like something they don't like, you'd 'never' see another god damn pony thread, I guaran-fucking-tee it.

Although as a fan of the show myself, I propose lynchings of the people from the fanbase who make threads like that, because I'll be honest, I found enjoyment out of coming to like the show of my OWN will and not at the hands of being forced by others to watch it.

I mean, as a fan I think I have a duty to get someone to watch the show who's WILLING to check it out, but after the first episode or two, if they don't like it, I let it go.

The people who don't let it go? Yeah, we prefer to shun them and point out we don't like them and would like them to stop being so vocal cause they make 'us' look like idiots.

But it is, IMHO, better to discover the show on your own and decide for yourself without any outside bias affecting your viewing of the show. To me, that's why I feel that these 5 months after first checking out the show and learning of its fanbase and presence, I can say I enjoy the show 'genuinely' rather than saying I like it to be ironic or just going with a trend on the internet.

I.E. my free will letting me ACTUALLY like the show for what it is, resulted in me feeling like some semblance of an individual in a sea of wannabe hipster douchebags trying to be on top of 'the next cool thing'.

An Ulver fan that's a brony? That's pretty intense, just sayin.

Where's the "Am I the only one who _" option?

Those threads annoy the heck out of me :/

Heh, I'm an intense kinda guy. I like to think a bit of 'Giggle at the ghosties' after burning through 'Nattens Madrigal' balances things out somewhat. Makes for a nice bit of diversity. :3
