Warhammer 40k, you have guns, aliens and a religious dictatorship.
They're already making an MMO out of that, sadly an MMORPG and not an MMOFPS ala Planetside like I (and many others) wish for.

Anyway, since the W40k universe is already taken, I would vote for the Starcraft universe, but that's not in the list.
Starcraft is a rip off from WH40k and Warcraft is a rip off from normal warhammer

You don't think any of these would be good? not even Fallout?
Especially Fallout. As much as I love the games, it would be a terrible MMO.
The whole idea of Fallout is the vast wasteland of nothing, with pockets of survivors fighting to stay alive in a terrible, desolate wasteland. You make it into an MMO and you've turned this world into a populated world with people running around all over the place, crowded cities and areas, and you completely lose the entire feel and setting that is Fallout. Even Fallout 3, which, for veterans of the series, is very different from the first two, still managed to have that feeling of vast, open, and alone.
A Fallout MMO might end up being a 'good game', but it won't be Fallout.
Nice to see someone thinks instead of just saying OMG FALLOUT 3 MMO WOULD BE GRAET!

I agree partly. I think that the 'mainstream' 40k universe, of Space Marines and nids and so on, would make a very bad MMO: there's just too much imbalance inherent within the races with the result that any MMO would have to focus exclusively on one faction (Guild Wars did it admittedly) or betray the fluff totally. Oh, and everyone would play Space Marines, and it would just get stupid very quickly.

What I think would work, however, is an MMO (maybe even an MMOFPS) set in the Necromundan Underhives (necromunda is a small scale skirmish game based on the gang warfare in the lower levels of an Imperial Hive city): given the differences in weapon preferences and physical strength between the different gangs a multiple 'race' system wouldn't be hard, although a rigid class system may not be workable. The action could possibly move out into the surrounding Ash Wastes with cobbled together vehicles for high end PVP possibly
Indeed, it would be extremely hard to balance super human Space Marines with normal humanee Imperial Guard. Still, I think it could be possible with some restrictions, or bonuses - like if an Imperial Guard player could have a squad of Cadian storm troopers with him, or some such - would still be hard to beat a marine, but hey.

Not familar with Necromunda, so can't really comment aside from "Sounds like a good idea".

Necromunda (their new site really isn't as good as the old one to be honest)
40k MMO sounds good to me but why do the Space Marines need to be seperated from the Guard. Just have it after a certain level that you get the option of becoming one.Same with Chaos start as Heretic then become Chaos Marine then Daemon.

Also Chrono Trigger would be great with multiple time periods adding a bunch of variety to the realms. Dual and Triple Techs would make the social experience more fun too.
NO NO FUCK NO!!! that would definitely NOT work and would ruin everything about chrono trigger for the same reasons that a fallout MMO would ruin fallout. If such a thing would ever come to pass there will be burnings.

And then bang goes the fluff: Imperial Guardsmen are too old to undergo the physical and mental conditioning that would make them a space marine, even if the very idea was considered at all. Maybe it might fit for gameplay purposes, but it makes a mockery of the established background.

I know it does work by the story but at least there would be a reason to play the other races instead of just the Space Marines. But the Chaos Marines becoming Daemons still works.

Warhammer 40K would make a good MMOFPS, especially a point-control one like Battlefield. Make it a persistent campaign world or worlds where the individual battles have an overall effect on the game story (I think it was Planetside that did this, but I have no idea how good it was). But it would make a lousy MMORPG IMHO because you lose a major feature of the universe: that individuals are faceless cogs in the larger machine. Any RPG, MMO or single player, sets up the character as a person of note and importance. In 40K 99.999999999% of humans are completely unimportant.

I'm not sure how well Firefly would do as an MMO. The universe is certainly varied and interesting enough, but they would have to significantly change the feel of the game from that of the show. In the show, everything revolves around this small group of people living and working in a cramped space. That would pretty much have to go out the window if they wanted to make a traditional MMO. The only way you could keep the flavour of the show would be to make it a highly segmented online game. You could divide the population into two major groups: spacers and planetsiders. The planetsiders are divided into factions that are struggling against each other, and they recruit/hire/manipulate the spacers into doing jobs. The spacers can take jobs for money or other rewards, or they can raid/steal to get what they need. Make it so that the spacers would have little interaction with people outside of their own crew. Essentially it would be two games melded together. Actually, that sounds kind of sweet. I'd play that game.

As far as other universes go, I second the suggestion of RIFTS. The RIFTS universe has a ton of varied areas that just scream for loads of expansions. Start with a general Coalition States/Tolkeen/Free Quebec and points between, and you can expand to the New West, Xiticix Hivelands, Federation of Magic, Vampire Kingdoms, and the East Coast. And THEN you have the entire rest of the world from there. There's tons of room to join the Coalition (technology), the Tolkeenites (fantasy) or go independent. Boatloads of races and classes to choose from as well.

Another that might work is the Deadlands universe. An Old West setting, but with the addition of many fantasy elements, and a healthy dose of steampunk to go with it.

Naruto really seems to be the only plausible one out of that list. Okay maybe Harry Potter as well but I think the castle might be a bit crowded in an MMO.

I think Grand thedt Auto would be more interesting than any of the above. Also a Half life one set between 1 & 2 which occurs during the Combine invasion etc would kinda work.

James Bond. Play as secret agents (MI6, SMERSH or SPECTRE), Q Branch techie, assassins, mad scientists and megalomaniacs. Have access to cars, guns and gadgets. Work your way upto 007 status or plan world domination, building secret hideouts on islands surrounded by sharks! Anybody up for a swim in a piranha pool?

I've been expecting you Mr Bond.

Well i would love a dragonball z just because i think it was awsome and would make a great MMO. The other ones like warhammer 40k, battlestar or starcraft would also be quiet cool. They all have such posibilities and endless fun to be had, They all have vast lands, Many characters and races, Lots of weapons and abilities.

why not Transformers? and i dont mean the crappy Bay films, but either based on G1 or Beast wars

think about it, not only do you make your character, but make their own alternate mode

save [or attack] the humans
steal energy or retrieve it
warfare

admit it, that could be awesome...if the right company did it
