Last gen was the best thus far. Just count all the great and original IPs and exsisting series for the PS2 alone. Then add GameCube(Best was Metoir prime) and Xbox(Best was Halo 2) and you got yourself a generation filled with good games.

Sega Genesis all the way.

Phantasy Star 4 is the game I'm playing right now.

I've yet to get rid of any of my consoles, but I'd have to say that the last generation was the best. My Gamecube and PS2 still get a ton of use.

The PS2 generation was definitely the best. Unless I'm mistaken PS2s are still outselling PS3s. Hell even Gamecube is pretty good compared to current gen consoles (ignoring backwards compatibility because that would just be unfair).

They're all good, but for me the Nintendo 64 is the best console for how great it was at the time, how consistently good its games are and how many great games were made for it that are still great fun today. By contrast, I think the Playstation was groundbreaking in different ways, such as 3D graphics, but its games don't hold up so well to a play-through these days.

The dreamcast was the last console to be made with any soul.

Ive owned most the major consoles at one time or another but I still keep going back to the genesis and snes. So many classic games. 16 bit has my vote. bomberman/thunderforce4/fantasy star 4/shining force 2/streets of rage2/secret of mana/sonic 2/chrono trigger. There are tonnes more at least as good as todays games.

I had some good times playing nes but there was a lot of trash games on there. I was made up the day I beat bionic commando.

Although the best game ever made is still super mario 3.

Last one just wins out over 64 bit. The Gamecube and PS2 had so many truly fantastic games that will never be bettered.
